Well I have bitten the bullet and sent off my entry for for the Essex And Suffolk Hunt Branch Of The Pony Club ODE at Stratford Hills on the 8th July.

I have the following question.

My horse, a 15.3, Connemara X ID, is lovelya nd I ride him in a Wexford snaffel. He goes very well in this.

Having looked at the PC rules I can't see this bit included in the allowed list. If I have to go back to a "standard" snaffel what would you suggest?

Owen has a tendancy to bite down on the "standard" snafel and just go hell for leather, hence the change to a wexford.

Has anyone competed Pony Club ODE in Wexford?

All answers gratefully recieved.

Im sure i will have lots more questions over the next couple off weeks.

Rules usually just apply to dressage phase. although PC does not allow Myler combo's. Dressage allows all BD legal bits and also grackle nosebands.

What is a Wexford, not heard of it. We use a Waterford for XC.

I'd imagine the rules are just for dressage, not SJ and XC. For dressage you could try a french link or lozenge bit, or prehaps a nathe/happymouth straight bar as these are bendy bits so nothing to bite hold of.

Have competed in a Waterford at PC ODEs for SJ and XC but def not allowed for dressage. My boy wears a KK loose ring lozenge bit- I have found that as he wears the Waterford most of the time, for the short time he is in the KK for the dressage and warm up he is fine - he wears the Waterford as he is very heavy in the hand and has learnt to lean on the bit.
