You wouldn't be legal.

The max braked towing weight for your car is 1300Kg, even with the lightest requisite the max towing weight is 14ooKg

Even if you did not go up to the max its not allowed. Only way would be to get a dealer to reduce the weight on the trailer plate.

The uladen weight of the trailer is 600kg , our pony is 480 (ish) kg which = 1080kg , which is less than the max towing weight of the car and also less than the caravan we tow which was deemed perfectly safe and legal by the Towsafe register .

Its not how much you actually tow but how much the max towing weight on the trailer shows.

For example the max load on my trailer plate is 2700Kg, I could not tow it with a vehicle which can tow less than that, even though I never come anywhere near having that much weight in it.

Its not difficult to get the max weight on the trailer downrated, it would just mean that you could never put more weight than that in it, even if you borrow a big 4 x 4

Im confused. I havent heard about the plate on the trailer before being anything to do with it. We have a shogun which can tow 2800kg so I presumed I was not allowed to go over that weight ie trailer, horse, kit, people combined???
I remember 85% rule came into it somewhere, something to do with kerb weight?.

Thanks,
Thats stupid! It contradicts itself, typical vosa. I started reading it and thought yes thats what I mean, car can tow so much, trailer, horse etc is so much, this is less than max car towing capability, then next bit, trailers max is so much with horses cant be over that, fair enough. Then the calculation they show is fine but its daft, the car in the example is more than capable of towing the trailer and one horse, what does it matter that the max weight capability of the trailer is more, you aint going (hopefully!!) to tow more than your car is capable of. Just another con to get more money. Loads of people must fall fowl of this and not even realise.

EG. 4x4 max towing capacity 2 tonnes
Double ifor HB505 max weight 2340kg, unladen weight 905kg.

As it is this it not a legal combo to tow. However, have the plate on the trailer derated to 2tonnes and you are now legal.... and you still have just over a tonne of load capacity... fine if you are towing say one horse (500kg) and hay/water etc. The only problem with doing this is if you intend to use the box for say 2x 16.2hh each 550-600kg as you would end up over weight.

I dont know why Im getting my knickers in a twist, my damn horse wont travel in a trailer

We had a Fourtrak before the Shogun and I never gave it a thought as that too can tow 3.5t. The showtreka is 3t max laden and theres much bigger than that!

We used to have a top of the range Lexus 4x4 Hybrid and found we could not tow two horses legally!!

I was given to understand this arose from EU legislation? Come to France where they seem to tow with any sort of family car...another example of EU law for France and another for the rest of Europe perhaps?

Requisite trailers are Cheval Liberte, only rebranded and more expensive - if you want one, go directly to Cheval Liberte dealer.
That doesn't change the fact that you won't be legal anyway...
