I wonder if anyone can help. After losing my gsd in march due to a brain tumour i am now looking to get another doggy. I am very keen to rescue you one and I have been looked at the usual RSPCA, Battersea and dogs trust but they all the dogs seem to be staffie's. Does anyone know of any good rescue places that have gsd or does anyone know if the police rehome there dogs? I am not bother by there age or sex but it does need to be a GSD. I know that sounds very single minded but I have GSD all my life and wouldn't know what else to get. If can suggest other breeds that would be good to. All i just want to give another dog a second chance at life. I live in surrey if that helps.

Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear about your old GSD. There are quite a few breed rescues, try some of these.

Vigil GSD Rescue
GSD Welfare
Big GSD
(sorry haven't got website details to hand for the latter, but a quick google should find them). There are also a few smaller groups which are area based, so they might be of use depending on where you are. Let me know if I can help at all. Totally understand you being single minded about wanting a GSD, think most GSD folk are exactly the same.

What happened to the GS you were trying to find a home for last year (?) - Saffie was it??

What MM said, good luck, let us know how you get on x

The police in the UK tend to keep their dogs for life.
You might check in with them to see if they have any that haven't made the grade, although these dogs generally have a lot of drive to have been considered in the first place and might not be ideal for a pet home.

Reputable breeders also take back dogs who haven't worked out for rehoming, PM me your location and I can see if I can help.

Happy ending AM! A couple of people from here did meet up with Saffie but she was a grump with their dogs. Her owners son had taken her home rather than leave her in kennels and found she coped okay with being left for most of the day, and his partner found she could live with her allergy, so in the end they kept Saff. I did post on here at the time, I was so thrilled.:D
