Skinny Minnie has been with us for 10 days now and she is the loveliest little horse.

I am so pleased with her and her progress, I just had to post a before and after pic. I know she still has a way to go and she still has a few problems (rain scald and locking patella's), but the difference in her is amazing - or I think so :)

She is on just hay and grass, no hard feed at the moment, and judging by how well she is doing in such a short time I think she and Fat Lad will be sporting his n hers grazing muzzles next year :)

She is still a bit on the lean side and needs some muscle building up but she is going to be lovely :)

Thanks all :) She is a very easy horse to love and care for, she has obviously been well handled in the past (she is 3), you can touch her everywhere and she stood stock still when I literally chucked a rug on her (forgot she wasn't my old girl). From the rain scald, lack of muscle tone and her weight we are assuming she was kept in a small space with no shelter and not fed enough. She loves attention and when she saw me this morning she cantered down the field towards me with me screaming 'slow down you stupid cow, you'll slip' :D Fat Lad just trots sedately after her :D

Miles better already MrsElle! How are the lumps on her nose? And her hind lameness? (Sorry if you've already updated about those....do keep up Gala!).

If she can gain condition this quickly on grass and hay, you do have to wonder was she being fed anything at all in her previous home.

I know Fiona, that is what we said. She is definately a good do-er :)

Gala, the lumps are rain scald, they are now crusting and looking like the rest of her poor scabby face. Her lameness is locking patella, so just a question of building up her muscle tone gradually and hopefully that will fix it.

Cobmum, it is a long story, but she ended up with a lady who takes in rescue cases, and although I was going to have another healthy horse off her I fell in love with Skinny Minnie :)

Bless you for your kindness. She looks like she might repay you by being a really lovely girl to have. :)

Oh good, nothing serious then. Bless her she sounds really sweet and I bet she'll be unrecognisable by the spring.

No, nothing that can't be fixed by a little tlc and walking up hills - luckily we have a lot of them round here!

I am looking forward to seeing her in her slinky summer coat instead of her fluffy bear coat :)

When Rose finally came into her summer coat this year and with weight on I have to admit I cried tears of joy, she'd looked so bloomin' awful before I never thought she would pick up so well. It's nothing short of miraculous the way they do.

it does always make you wonder what they have been doing with them when a bit of grass and ad lib hay can make that much difference.

Wow! Well done! How did you start to put weight on her? She looks fantastic now, no wonder you cried! I am glad I am seeing Skinny Minnie through a thick winter coat, although thin it was disguised by her fluffiness somewhat - I would have cried and cried if SM looked like your girl did :( What was her history?

Um. gosh, thank you, well nothing special really. Lots of grass..luckily there was some when she arrived, and then ad lib hay, Alfa A and Mole valley horse and pony cubes once a day, lovely thick rug through the worst of the winter and that was all.

I'd seen her advertised on the 'net on a quite disreputable website, (not going to name it butI expect you can guess which one) a lovely poster on this site put the link up. Poor babe all skinny and scared, tied to a wall in the ad on about an inch of rope. Couldn't sleep from thinking of her. Went with a friend and bought her on the spot. Horrible place, lots of other very poor horses, hard to drive away without taking them all. Didn't think she'd make the trip home, she was so weak. Vet body scored her as a 1/2. She's a Standardbred X. Bought her just to rescue her and as a project but darn it..she a keeper, love her to bits!

Sorry if you've already mentioned it but she looks like she has ring worm on her face (the flaky rings round her eyes) I only mention it because if it is it will spread like wildfire to you and your other animals.

You're doing a brilliant job with her. Well done.x
