Hi,

I recently had drainage put in to my paddocks and have had to section off areas waiting for them to settle. These had some grass and some bare bits which were re seeded a month ago using a good quality paddock mix. This new grass is now much longer and thicker than the leftovers of the old grass., so am considering overseeding with a mix this company does for that purpose. Its an incredible growth rate for the timescale

Has anyone else done this and what did you think

Also cant afford to keep the area un horsed for too long as short of space, and also worried about the amount of grass i will have if I do. How long before its safe to put horses on it, bearing in mind they are all unshod

I enquired about oversowing my little paddock and was told to harrow it before overseeding. This will loosen the soil enough for the seeds to take hold.
It was then recommeded I leave it for at least a couple of months for the roots to establish.

Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of alternative grazing to be able to do this. In the end I raked the bald patches, hand sowed the seed and re-raked it in. Most of it has grown, except where I didn't rake it, the birds helped themselves to that! I also put down twice as much as recommended just to make sure!
