my horse was a bit under the weather for a few days so i spoke to the vet each day to give him updates, there was no temp or anything like that but he was lethargic and at rest his breathing was a bit heavier than usual.
the vet was hoping it would clear up on its own but in the end he came out to check my big lad over before the weekend (last weekend) to save on emergency call outs!
anyway he came out and said that my horse has a respiratory infection but deep down rather than on his chest (make sense?), he gave him some meds by injection and left me with 4 more days of anti b's and phenylbutazone twice a day until further notice.
he's perked up alot and seems quite happy again, he's now pinching hay off others, bossing my ponies about as well so i know he's feeling better.
yesterday he had to have a proper leg stretch in the arena for 10 mins (hunt were around so all were in) and afterwards he seemed to be breathing a bit heavier than before, to be expected i suppose so i left him for a couple of hours to rest (had other things to do) before bandaging him up and he still seemed to be breathing deep/heavier although only from his stomach not his nose/mouth.
so i'm guessing he's on the road to recovery but how long would it normally take for your average (normally) fit and healthy horse to recover from something like this?
he's got added problems of liver damage so everything hits him harder and takes longer to recover from!
