Hey,
My horse has a mild cough and was going to try him on a supplement to see if it would help..
But he is super fussy eater. If the supplement has a scent, he won't even try it, if it has a taste he won't eat it....so frustrating.
At moment he has a Horselyx respiratory lick which he loves, even though it has a strong smell, but its not made any difference on his cough.

From what i've read in other threads science supplements respiraid and global herbs airway plus seem to be the most popular...do you think i'll have any chance of him eating them?! Or is there any respiratory supplement that doesn't smell?

Thanks x

I have started using RespirAid on my Connie this year and have been really pleased with the results. He is quite fussy and goes off feed quickly but he is eating it in Pure Easy without any trouble at all.

Mine eats respiraid no problem. You cant buy a £14.99 trial pack before forking out for a full tub if that helps.

*disclaimer I would speak to a vet first and get a diagnosis before trying to do anything with a nutritional aid.

If there is something like a low grade infection/virus/asthma the sooner it is treated with the appropriate medication the better it is for long term health (when a supplement may then be of some help).

Coming from someone with a horse who has asthma after a virus picked up when other liveries left their horses untreated. Vet was out as soon as I heard mine cough (mild) and ended up scoped, a course of antibiotics and steroids and now, 2yrs later, he occasionally needs ventipulmin and will possibly need steroids down the line. All because of negligent owners and YO allowing horses to go untreated and spread a virus.

I had this happen to mine as a 5yr old & as a result he now has a pollen allergy due to it attacking him at a young age & weakening his immune system, he's been out of work now Spring to Autumn every year since but capable of full work over winter, he's 16 now.

As for an easy to administer supplement, my boy had a cough end of winter & within a few days of squishing Day Son & Hewitt Feel good 30 in his feed it went! Very effective. Only £13.99 online. I only use it now if he sounds a bit stuff & it definitely helps - I've tried everything over the years so nice to have found something that works.
