My horse has been on Ventipulmin which helped get rid of his cough. However, he gets a runny nose after every ride and still occasionally has a slight cough and is a bit wheezy when its dusty and pollen is high. Just wondering what supplements would be best for him as I don't want to keep putting him on Ventipulmin. I've been looking at Equine Americas ventilator and pollen eze powder, just wondering what other people's experiences are with these? Or is there a supplement I could give him for just a couple days to help? Thanks

If its just in spring and summer, I'd probably try antihistamines. How wheezy is he? Maybe he does need Ventipulmin all the time

He's only slightly wheezy when ridden, I just didn't want to put him on Ventipulmin all the time incase it then starts not working. Thanks for the idea of antihistamines

My pony gets a cough and wheezy breathing in spring/summer, I've started giving her aniseed this year and it seems to do the trick; the cough came back a few weeks ago but turns out she'd ran out of aniseed and yard hadn't told me (they do all feeds) - a few days back on it and breathing fully clear. In my book that's a scientific blind test 😀

Have you consulted your vet? Perhaps he needs a bit more treatment? I wouldn’t stop giving him the medication in case it stops being effective?? Perhaps he needs more than just the ventipulmin alone. I would get him checked again and once clear then consider supplements. No off the shelf supplement is going to be as effective I’m afraid

I'll ask the vet to check him again, thanks

1753652158272.pngamazon. i use 10 in morning and 10at night. put in syringe with water. leave ten mins or so to dissolve. it's made a massive difference to jay. really recommend

Another one for cetirizine but check with your Vet how many to give. My boy is 15 hands and has 15 morning and evening. They seem to help him, and also seem to stop the allergic reactions to fly bites he keeps having.
