Had a good look at my trailer the other day and decided it needs a coat of paint. So anyone done a DIY job on their trailer ? What paint did you use and did you use a spray gun or a roller ? My trailer is a very old (30 odd yrs ) Rice Beaufort.

Hi ya

Ive just recently brought and renovated an old rice! Not quite 30 years old but id say 15-20.

I used cellulose (sp?) based car paint with a spray gun. Used primer, then colour (two coats) then hardner mixed with gloss top coat.

I have before, during and after pics but i cant up load them from work computor!

Good luck.

ETS: p.s Preperation is everything, the better the rub down the better the finish

I used Landrover paint - the old Rice trailers were all painted with it to match the Landrovers that everyone used to pull them. Mine was that grey/blue colour, looked very smart

We did ours with Focus outdoor paint as recommended by someone on here...looks very very smart. Was all done by hand (with a brush!), not a single brush stroke can be seen and looks very very good with just 1 coat! Took ages to prep it mind you!

I bought a tin of primer & car paint & after rubbing down the trailer applied it with a small gloss roller & a small brush to get into the tight places. It dried to a lovely finish & no brush marks. Many people commented on how good it looked & after using it for 3-4 years I actually sold it for £300 more than I bought it for.

thanks for replys, my trailer is wooden so do i just get all the flaky bits off and rub down the metal work and will i need to prime it as the paint work in general is very good (just faded etc ) its a bit flaky on the top.

You must get rid of the flakey bits & rub them down feathering the edges. If you don't all the imperfections will show through the new paint & the job will look tatty. I'm about to do some touching in on my lorry & will be doing the same....good luck.
