Well the vet took his pictures of Oscar's hocks this morning and he was very well behaved, even though his foot was sore from pulling his shoe off, stood like a rock without being held so we got some good clear pictures acording to the vet.
So I tried to keep myself busy all day till he phoned with results. He was really good as he phoned around three thirty. So he does have spavin was the first thing he said, so no surprise there. Then he asked how long he has felt lame, not long I said, getting a bit worried. Any way he said that I was not to panic about what he was about to say (so I did) Oscar has spavin in the higher hock joint (panic even more as we have another on the yard with this who wasn't given a high chance of full soundness) So this news was met with an "oh" from me. But then came the news.....it has almost completely fused

Infact he said he has never seen a spavin case like this, it is rare for this joint to fuse, normaly it is the lower joint that does, but there is no signs of spavin on the lower joint at all.
So it seems like good news. The vet is back in the morning to take more pictures as he wants to send then to the vet school to be used as he said they would find it intresting and usefull. And then he is going to treat the joints, so fingers crossed I have the go ahead to ride again....I have so missed him

Well thats really good news what a relief. As you know mine has had surgery in the lower part of the hock .This last week he has shown a huge improvement he had to have 2 weeks off because he stood on a 4 inch nail I think the rest and 24 hour turnout helped the hock.Looks like we are both smiling.Ive been nearly a year round with various injuries and am looking forward to the summer when it ever stops raining lol

Just spent two days watching a dressage clinic when all I wanted to do was ride. Another organised for end of june and it looks like, fingers crossed, we can go

We have had very little rain for almost six weeks, a few heavy showers yesterday, but not enough, ground is rock hard.

I hope you do get the same news. It was such a weight off my shoulders.
I am very lucky as I have such a good vet, we can't get over the fact he was only mildly lame. Gona see the pictures tomorrow, its going to be interesting.
Let me know how you get on with Ty. x

Hi parkranger is ty having surgery or x rays.My friend has just had both her boys hocks done at the same time he looks like nora batty in leg warmers at the mo.

Your welcome to some of our rain we had the most horrific thunderstorm the other night .Spent three hours worrying about them the lightening was overhead as well. Looking forward to doing some schooling its what he really needs hes never been able to do much because of ongoing injuries. Its so strange we all thought he was lazy now his hock is improving hes going forward in the manage for the first time. Not to good on the corners but that will come next week I might try to book a lesson .I would love to have a go at dressage and really miss jumping its been two years since I jumped him.I bet Ill get him going nicely and my daughter will nick him for pc .
