Just sharing for some awareness.
The thin blue paw are campaigning for pensions to be provided for retired police dogs to help with the extra costs due to work related injuries and the fact the dogs do have a harder life.

I'm super proud as Laura is a friend and I have the pleasure of looking after Marco. He has taken some time to settle into a house but he is really getting there and a lovely dog.

Marco was on BBC breakfast this morning and there is a link below:

No point to the post really but a proud friend and dog looker-afterer!

I completely agree, I feel the same about retired police and military horses too, they get dumped onto charities or members of the public who have to be prepared to pick up the pieces at their own expense.

It seems wrong to me really.

Service animals should absolutely be entitled to full cost retirement whether through age or injury.
Caveat that the money is spent on the animals and not by unscrupulous people on themselves. A difficult one to police (excuse the pun).

I think it would be fairly easy to pay the service animal's pension direct to the vet for ongoing treatment or for the vet to charge directly to the pension fund for the treatment rather than billing the owner.
If the pension was to go towards food, surely it would be simple enough to pay it in vouchers or gift cards for a pet store. Owner doesn't get any cash so no incentive to be unscrupulous when taking on a retired service animal.

Lovely looking dog. 5 is very young to retire, what happened to him ?
From what my friend has said, he decided being a police dog wasn't for him anymore and that he wasn't cut out for that life!
He's slowly adapting to home life, he's aloof but incredibly sweet in nature in reality and loves "his" people. Siper intelligent but also really daft at times. He also loves anything ball shaped. That his lord and saviour.

He might be on ITV later today.

He has an Instagram page:
