Retired racers?

Got mine from either the trainers yard or from a person I know who works in racehorse transport and hears about all the nice ones that would go onto another career easily.
Prices do differ.

Various places, straight from training yards, bloodstock sales or rehoming centres or experianced individuals that spend a lot of time re-schooling and making sure the horse goes the right person to prevent future problems or horse being passed about etc.

I usually hear of them through my farrier who also works in Newmarket! If you get them direct from the racing yards, they are stupidly cheap. Had one of mine 8 years - found him in a teeny weeny box, he was so depressed he wouldn't even look at me. Took him home that day, best £200 I ever spent. Funny thing was, I went back the next year to the same yard and had a look in his old box and found my next horse!

From a private seller (verging on dealer) who heard about him via her racehorse transporter friend (I think).

The trainer seems really lovely too though (Alex Hales).

You can pick them up from the sales as well - if you're looking for a bargain that's the place to go. I wouldn't trust myself to pick a good one though.

I knew about Archie form an advert in the Western Daily Press.

My mother is a racehorse trainer so I often get to hear of horses for sale by word of mouth. None of these have been re-schooled though.

We are lucky we have a very big stables and very happy horses. A lot of them have arrived not really knowing what to do when shown affection... but they learn pretty quick! They all overdose on attention at ours!

Unfortunately for me, although I am in the best position to hear of ex-racehorses for sale, I am not in a great location to re-school. My only hacking involves their old training ground which makes it so hard to teach them that they are not racehorses anymore.
