I would like to ask people what their thoughts are on retirement yards for horses. Is there a big demand for them? Would you use one?

Does anyone know where the Police retire their horses to?

I have a friend who is looking at setting up a retirement yard on the Hampshire/Berkshire border and she is looking initially at what sort of demand there would be and where she could look for horses that need retiring to a lovely yard. i.e. the police force and racing yards etc

Any ideas, thoughts or questions gratefully received :-) Thank you.

I was considering at one point putting my late mare on retirement livery when she was suffering from soundness issues, but I lost her to colic suddenly in the end.
However, I very much like the idea of retirement livery in general and if I had the land and money to set up a retirement livery I would.

How much would people be willing to pay for such a thing? As much as they'd pay for part/full livery (assuming horse is stabled/given feed/rugged/groomed as required)?

I have managed a retirement home since 1991, we have never had any horses retired directly from racing .........unfortunately that wouldn't be a market for you
