Hi,
Can anyone recommend any retirement livery yards in any of the above counties? I have searched on here and have recommendations for Cornwall and Devon but can't see any for the above counties.
many thanks

Do you want pony/horse to live out 24/7 or do you want a stable? Guessing you would like someone to do all checks, feeds, etc? There are quite a few places out there but it depends on your requirements, your budget and the horse/pony you're looking to retire.

Hi

We have 55 acres, split mares and geldings herds in Haslemere, Surrey, boxes available but you would have to do that yourself. Hay put out in hay hutches in winter daily, automatic troughs and 100% post and rail plus regular poo picking with machine. Horses in both fields 24/7, regular rotation.

Would only want horses that fit in, both herds have alpha's that would only be toppled with considerable pain to all parties! Been there done that!

Let me know if you want more info...

not strictly a retirement yard but molly key does livery at her yard in compton surrey near the A3. she has 2 retired horses, and has had our retired horse for the last 2 winters as he has needed to be out as much as poss, and she has a lovely barn that he went into at night with her other 2. her ground is very dry, the place is immaculate, as are the horses.

Thanks for replying - he is a TB ex-eventer and has never wintered out so would want access to a stable if needed but ultimately the aim is to return him to as natural state as possible in the hope that he enjoys it. His comfort is paramount - i owe him so much - so yes would be vital that someone does regular checks etc. That is the reason that i don't want him too far away, if possible. I want to be able to get to him if i have to but be able to trust someone else to cater to his needs on a daily basis. I know he won't "retire" on his current yard because he will be too busy stressing about the fact that everyone else is going to shows without him. If all the other horses that he is with, don't leave the field then he will chill too. He is a complete wuzz with other horses, not at all aggressive although will "play" if the other horses are up for it. If not, then he will just graze. Hope that isn't to waffly or unclear?

I know someone who kept their horse at that place and they were very happy with it. The lady really looked after her and was vey caring when she was injured (not due to any fault of the place or the owner). I think the pricing was very fair too. The pony has died now but she was in her mid twenties and was well until the final injury/illness.

thank you for the recommendation.

I went to see this place for my ISH girl as Im looking for grass livery to cut down on costs. Personally wasnt comfortable with it for my big horse. Fencing was wire and imo low and baggy, grazing was boggy with a lot of standing water. Has no running water, electricity or hardstanding, but might not be a problem for retirement. The woman running it seemed very caring and knowledgeable and the Horses all looked very well and happy.

thanks...that may be a problem for him as he can get mud fever.....sigh....

I know a yard (used to be there before moved) on Hants/Berks border (literally) at Finchampstead. Owner does retirement or wintering out (polo ponies). Live out 24/7, rugged if needed, hay in fields in winter. If problem (usually abcesses with polos), horses brought into the barns for treatment. Don't know if it's what you're after, but if you want pm me & I will pass on owners contact info.

I did see it after the snow when nobodys grazing looked any good. Might still be worth looking at.

Are you in sw/w london? Guessing you might be from where youre looking. If so i know a lovely private yard near kingston with 24/7 turnout in summer and boxed for worst of months of winter. Very reasonable rates and all retired Horses, certain had vacancies a gee week ago. Not advertised so pm me if its of interest.

Hi

I have recently moved to the Haslemere area and I'm looking for somewhere to keep my 14.2hh welsh X gelding. He is 21 years old and recently retired (due to arthritis and tripping when he is ridden). He is used to living out at grass all year in a herd, good as gold, usually near the bottom of the pecking order.

many thanks

Roz

Hi are you still looking for reitement livery? I have a space at my yard near Hartley wintney Hampshire. We have just 6 horses at my yard so is nice and quiet we have a stable and field available.I have my own horses there so the horses are turned out all day and in at night so you wouldnt need to worry about your horse not being checked etc. We treat all our livery horses as if they were our own and their care and well being is very important! pm me if interested.
