Has anyone here got any experience of Monshall Hall Farm Retirment livery. I am looking at this as on option for one of my horses and it seems lovely. PM if you prefer.

Alternatively if you can recommend any other retirement liveries I would be grateful.

Thanks

Looks ok, so long as you're confident your horse can run as part of a herd, but you'll need to check the ones they have can do too in case injuries regularly occur - as this appears to be what they're doing.
Also, stables IF required, surely an oldie would defo require it? I know a TB like mine couldn't cope without stabling during winter.
regularly checked? what does that mean?

Cant see anything about rug changes?

Sent my gelding down a few weeks ago for long term recup livery for an injury. 4 hours away from me so I have to be able to trust he is being looked after!

Went to visit and he was in heaven. Was lying down in a huge field with 4 new mates and a bunch of sheep. There was a gateway open to another field, loads of grass. She matches them up according to temperament. The horses all looked really well and stood and enjoyed a scratch and a bit of attention.
When we walked away my boy wandered off with his new friends - I always think thats a good sign that they aren't desperate to be with you!

Fantastic place. I used to have two of mine down there, neither exactly the world's easiest to deal with (old boy, very cold sensitive, lost weight at the drop of a hat, terrible with mares and a bit of bully with geldings and a relatively young mare with EMS, lami-prone, who hated having to be retired through injury). Both were happy and relaxed down there, always in great condition, the right sort of weight, comfortable in their carefully chosen herd groups, no signs of scrapping, etc. Nat stays on top of jabs, dentist, etc, called me and the vet as soon as she had concerns about the old fella and I never had any cause to question her methods of care. I used to visit regularly, sometimes booking to visit (she's busy and has visitors most days, hence the booking system, plus it's a working farm) and sometimes just dropping in when I knew which field they were in. I always found the horses with good grass, shelter, the right rugs, decent hay/haylage, and clean water.

Nat's an old-school, practical horsewoman, but she genuinely cares about the horses in her care, knows every one and its story/history, always stops to give them a scratch and a cuddle, and makes sure they've got everything they need.

I also found that even my old fella didn't need his stable in the winter and he was much less stiff for being able to meander about, rugged up, and sheltering either in the woods or in his field shelter. (As a side note, he always had a cough, but it was down to pollen/dust allergy from way before I bought him some 16 years ago, better for being out, and not in the least bit contagious!).

Gosh, sounds like your horses had quite a few problems all at once. Glad you found it ok.

Yeah, we did have a bit of a saga with the pair of them! Nat's place worked for both of them, with their various complexities. They were happy there and, although there were times where Nat did things differently to how I would have done them, it was just that: different. (I was a bit paranoid about both of them by that stage, so I was really glad not to ever find cause to worry about them!).

The old boy was pts there at the end of this summer, since we were in agreement that he wouldn't cope with another winter, and Nat was lovely throughout that process. My girl's come home now and (fingers crossed) seems to have recovered from her injury, but I wouldn't hesitate to send her back there to retire again if need be. I'm sorry you didn't have such a good experience. Glad your horses are sorted now.

I wouldn't recommend it personally..... I moved horses from there and mine are now very happy at Goodmerry Farm, thoroughly recommend this place, totally amazing and they have proper trained staff etc and the horses can be stabled if required and they really are very well looked after with individual attention, we get the bills sent directly to us etc, so we can see exactly what we are paying for http://www.horse-retirement.com/ if there is a horse retirement home second to none then this is the one.

Hi - another option for you - Gorgeous Grazing in Cornwall. http://www.gorgeousgrazing.co.uk/

I sent my polo pony mare there last January for her retirement and couldn't be happier with the care, attention and love that Kim gives her ( and all the others!) The place is stunning, right on the coast so always benefits from a slighter milder climate, the ponies live in small groups and Kim looks after them as if they were her own. There are regular facebook updates and Kim doesn't mind me emailing her all the time to check on my mare ( I am clucky!)

In fact I sent all our polo ponies down there for a 6 week holiday, they arrived back on Thursday - all immaculate and looking so well, I would recommend GG to anyone happily as I know how well the ponies are cared for. Not only that- it is so affordable, which was I have to admit the main factor for me choosing retirement!

Wow, this sounds like a great place too, took a peek and also looks like a really nice place. Happy to know there are lots of options, I feel it's really important that our oldies or ones on rest are very well looked after with individual attention, not just dumped in fields.
