Interested to hear from yard owners who do it and owners of old/retired horses who use it please.
Its an idea that ive been thinking about for a short while but it gets more serious as I go on!
My horse is 10 but facing retirement, in my opinion my paddocks are not really retirement friendly- over grazed, muddy not great shelter. They have to come in at night to save the fields. Behind mine however is 5 acres which I could potentially rent for about £100 pcm. I don't have this extra money but wondered if I was to either find a livery or two- have to be retired as access is bad except for me and my horse would go mad left alone.
I would happily take on all the care of the other oldies. Rug changes, feeds, hay water and handling for vets/farriers etc.
In turn my horse gets a few friends who are always there and a lovely big field with natural shelter all round. Im not looking to make money as such on this little venture.
I figured it gives someone with a retired horse the option of knowing its safe and happy but not the ties of having to visit daily or even weekly if they don't want to.
What do you think? could this work and would anyone want it?
I work with horses in the morning but am generally at my horses am, lunch and evening so they would be well checked and I can provide excellent references if required.
