Hello,

Please can I ask for advice from anyone who uses a retirement livery for their horse.

I have my own horse kept at my own property, a large field, 3 x stables a bit basic but certainly meets the requirements of most horses. My horse currently chooses to go in or out, (99% out is his choice even in winter!) I am an older rider currently just hacking around for fun/hobby. He has a companion horse which is unfortunately having to back to his original home:(:( so am now thinking about the options I have to provide my cob with company. I don't want to take ownership of another horse.

I am thinking of offering up a place for a retired horse that the owner doesn't want to sell or can be ridden anymore. I would be willing to keep a check on it, make sure rugs are ok if wearing one, bring in it for a bit a brush and attention, provide hay and unlimited turnout. In an ideal world it would be horse similar to mine that likes to be out and is abit hardy. Also happy to be on its own for an hour or so when I hack out which out which is about 3/4 times a week if that. The owner would be responsible for the farrier bill, any vet bill and any horse insurance although we have liability insurance on the land which covers the horses on it.

My questions are, how much would you think is a fare price, the area is South Gloucestershire. And is there a need for this type of service?

Any advice greatly received.

Sorry I cannot offer you any help on this particular matter - but if you re-post this in The Tack Room you may get a better response as there is more traffic there. :)
