Hi all, after about 18 years I desperately want to start riding again. As an older teen I competed in one-day events and even taught a bit.

I live in Glasgow and wondered what yards people would recommend. good teaching, good practices, general nice places (I am now too old for too much yard-bitching!). If there are any to avoid (without too much name-calling!) I'd also like to know.

Also, as an aside, I'm not as wee as I used to be so some good big horses too would help! YIKES (I mean, I'm not going to kill a horse but still, a consideration).
Also, in time I'd like to help out and be in and around a good yard again.

Thanks in advance!!

Wardhouse isn't far from Glasgow airport, so traffic dependant it would take you 20 mins, possibly 30? I used to be a livery there, it's a very well run yard, with great instructors and they run adult training days, dressage series and things like that

Tannoch Stables in Cumbernauld is where I returned to riding over 10 years ago. They have a variety of horses and instructors - have two large indoor schools, outdoor arenas, xc jumps, gallops. I liveried my horse there for a while but it got rather expensive for full livery so I went DIY - but I cant fault them for giving me confidence when I returned to riding

From Dennistoun, your closest riding schools are probably Tannoch, Busby and Roundknowe. I have friends that thought highly of Busby, I also know people who are very happy with Tannoch.
When I kept my horse at Wardhouse and drove through from Dennistoun area, unless I was travelling at quiet times it could take 40mins. It's an excellent school with fantastic instructors, so if you book your lessons at quieter times of the day for driving it should be ok for travel.
