Has anyone got any advice or suggestions for trailer camera's please ? I want a wide angled camera for the inside (I think) and thought I'd get a reversing one as well......OH, (non-horsey) says he can understand getting one to watch the horses while travelling but thinks the reversing one will be a waste of time .......any views and suggestions welcome....thanks in advance, Ann

I'm pretty sure Pedantic has done exactly what you are talking about. He got his camera from Costco.

I've been considering the same thing, although the view screen in the car is pretty small, but I guess the driver shouldn't really be watching it too much.

Thanks for your reply NeilM,
I'm old now but used to tow & drive a box 30 years ago with no qualms whatsoever ! I hate being old ! I guess it's just a confidence thing that I feel the need for cameras everywhere....

I was looking for something similar a while back, did a bit of research! A good place to start looking is Amazon/e-bay, the options are Wireless/cable and colour/B&W, or combination of, with other factors being screen size and "low light" capability, the wireless systems tend to support just one camera and start at around £70, if you already have an in-car DVD player/Satnav some cameras can be easily connected into these cutting down the price, ie camera only.

Pros & Cons:

Wireless, tend to be easier to install a DIY item, becomes more complicated if more than one camera required, can be subject to interferance from power lines etc. More easily moved between vehicles.

Hard wired, more a professional installation, less easily swapped between vehicles, can utilise existing screen, thought will need to be given to how to connect trailer to car, ie additional connection made for camera feed, but could work out cheaper and better quality image.

Look at the screen sizes these vary from 2.5" to 7", obviously bigger is clearer, low light capability, needed for in the trailer unless you plan to travel your horse with the light on, but not so vital for reversing, if your unit links in to the selection of reverse gear as the reversing light will come on.

Ifor Williams do their own system for about £150(I think), this is a wireless horse camera system rather than reversing system.

My advice unless you want to really complicate things go for a simple in trailer system, rather than a complicated multi camera one, either practice your reversing or try to get someone to watch you back. Sorry that may not be very helpful...
