I'm looking at buying an air vest and trying to decide which brand to go for. Just looking for standard model black vest and pricing seems very similar so can't choose that way.

Already have a hard body protector for jumping. Want the air vest to wear alone for day-to-day riding mainly, then will wear it over the hard one for XC.

Does anyone have any advice based on longevity, dealing with the manufacturers for servicing, comfort, practicality, running costs...?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered

I chose a HitAir, I found with a normal BP underneath to Point Two was too bulky. Again wearing alone the Hit Air is so lightweight and VERY breathable as it isn't a full vest it is made up of tubes that expand when the vest it let off, also as the Hit Air is held together with poppers, that undo when the vest is trigged it's tidier and smaller when worn.

Will do a blog post on my hit air soon - as I am a huge fan!

I've recently been looking into this and I think I will go with a HitAir. If you search for air jacket, point2 or HitAir on the forum there are lots of previous threads comparing the two which I found really helpful.

Before I buy though, I've found a saddlery which stocks both, so I can compare the two in the flesh.

I have a point two and think its great. Very light, a bit longer at the back, for your cocyx.
When i looked into it i decided to go with point two. I doubt their is much difference and unless you have one of each it will be hard to tell.

HitAir

Higher Saftey standard and better design which is why it's approved for motorcyclists as well as equestrian

The 2 point is not as the design - inflating inwards was deemed not safe enough for motorcyclist injuries.

I have the HitAir and I use it on my bike and my horse, it's the same vest just a different lanyard , the horse one is shorter. I have a long lanyard attached to my bike.

Love my Hit Air. Much less bulky and IMO better neck and coccyx cover a than P2. I wear it every time I ride as so comfortable - only weighs 800g.
I had my 1st fall for 20 years the other day and without doubt the Hit Air saved me.
Obviously after the fall I had to get a replacement canister - which I ordered direct from HA online. Their customer service was excellent as I had to contact them as Royal Mail lost the package in the Xmas post. HA immediately despatched another canister recorded delivery at no extra charge.
I cannot rate my HA highly enough. Apparently all the French mounted police and motorcycle police wear them as standard.

I've had 6 falls in my Hit Air one where I ripped muscle away from my left hip and burst three disc in my lower back, my back was black still with bruising, the hospital said god only knows how much worse it would of been had I not been wearing it.

The canisters are very easy to change, it takes 2 mins. You can't really make a mistake.

My sister had a terrible accident with a 2 point but it was one of the first when they came out.

She had a fall and the lanyard did not break away from the jacket, she was dragged 100m under her galloping horse, untill the vest ripped off her back. She was very very lucky and was only battered and bruised, even her riding boots had been ripped off her in the panic.

She contacted 2 point and they replaced the vest and her riding boots , they think she had not changed the canister correctly.

Since then I'm lead to believe they have changed the mechanism.

Scary stuff though.

I have a point 2 and love it - must admit haven't fallen off in it yet!!

Yes they do inflate inwards, but they are fitted looser than the Hit Air (which inflate outwards).

You really need to try them both on for yourself and see which you prefer!

Good luck
