Rhinegold rugs, any good?

They are horrible ,with the worst fit and buckles I have ever come across. The lining also moves in a weird way and rolls. Iv'e stupidly tried 2 thinking something might have improved in between as the first one was so crap. Sadly no.
They are very waterproof ,however, and cheap.

I found the lining moves backward which caused the rug to fold inwards at the front. Mine doesn’t wear here often for this reason, the Velcro ends up on the skin inside the rug.

I wouldn't buy a rhinegold again ever. I bought a turn out last year which leaked terribly after only a handful of times on my mare. I contacted Rhinegold who told me to get it reproofed and that the waterproof coating would wear off if my horse rolled in it!

Yes! that's it Meleeka. Really bloody annoying and forever having to yank it around.
Boy we've given them a good slating on here:oops:.
You'd think that given how rubbish they clearly are that something might improve on them. I'm sure they are German made or were, if so i'm quite surprised as they are so good at so many things

Majority of the ones I have seen are 600D, there are a couple more expensive ones which are 1000D so might be worth paying more if they are more robust.
Not sure sorry I have a secondhand one but I have never used as my youngster grew such a thick winter coat ,never like 600d of any rug make .

from what I can see on eBay all but the lightweight are 1000 denier

I have a 100gm combo which is OK. They're cheap rugs so I only use it as a spare. That said it fits him well and keeps him warm. I wouldn't put it on in a downpour and it did rip quite easily but you get what you pay for.

I bought one a few years ago as I needed a cheap rug quickly. It's still going strong and it's fits fine and is waterproof. I'm very happy with mine.

I bought two Rhinegolds years ago, when I had my Thoroughbred and my very fine little Welsh B - and have never been tempted to buy them again! The fit was horrendous, as described by Shady and Meleeka, and the rug ended up rubbing my mare on her shoulders. The only thing I can say in their favour is that they were waterproof!

Only ever brought one, seemed to fit ok, got down in the morning and front ripped open, gave it away. I nearly always buy Ruggles now, good fit for my two and good quality for the price.

I have two Rhinegolds that fit great on lightweight sports horses if you have them slightly long. Both horses would just fit in 6ft 3 but I prefer to have them in 6ft 6. At 35 quid including postage for 250gm they are excellent value for money. Front buckles are a bit flimsy is my only criticism.
