SWUO has a lightweight turnout made by Rhinegold. Entirely my fault for buying the damn thing off ebay without physically looking at one in person first

but basically the flipping leg straps are attached far too low to be of any use whatsoever, and before you say take them off and add a filet string.....already thought of that but the D-rings are way too low to make this viable as SWUO will get her legs caught in even that. IMO, a rug of the size SWUO needs( 4' 3) is going to be worn by a short-arsed pony so RAISE THE HELL DAMNED D-RINGS!!!

Will take a pic tomorrow to show you what I mean by low!

So, my Q is really, is this just this particular rug( a second maybe that I'm now lumbered with), or does anyone else who owns a rug by Rhinegold find the same thing?

Rhinegolds and Horsewear and the only rugs I've found to fit my cob properly - but he is 16.2 and large build so maybe they are better on big horses?

I hear what you're saying Parsley

but given that rugs of small sizes are going to be worn by SMALL ponies, is it not logical to move the leg straps a little higher so they don't sit below the ponies hocks?

The rug itself is fine, fits in all other ways, it's just that feature that is annoying me

Yes - I do agree with you - I wonder if they use the same design of rug but made smaller, which doesn't always work - a bit like large size clothing being cut the same way as small size

It wasn't a problem on my bigger sized rug, it was just the rug in general that was rubbish

. My friend has HW rugs for her shetties, and their fillet string rings are far too low as well - maybe its just a small rug problem

It does seem stupid! Do you have a saddler near you who could put some D rings on in a better place?

Yes, I made that expensive mistake with an old pony.

I now buy horseware pony rugs and any foal rugs. They seem to be made that wee bit shorter.

You could always take the d rings off and place them higher?

Yep i had the same problem as you. I bought a 'bargain' one off ebay for my shettie (4''3) and he looked like he was going jousting! Way way to deep, if they weren't so deep it would've been a nice rug.

Bought a bargain Rhinegold rug off ebay too... couldn't even do the damn thing up on my cob and it fell apart within a week. Wasn't waterproof either. Will never be buying one again!

I've got a Rhinegold fleece that I won and not exactly the same problem but similar - the fillet string is sooo high - almost impossible to get tail through!

I don't get on with Rhinegold at all. Got one for Rhyn that is ripped so I didn't send it with him - he usually takes a 6ft and this is a 6ft6 and still too tight on shoulders. New mare came with one and that's the same. V strange make. I was given the one for Rhyn but i definitely wouldn't spend my own money on them.

Horseware and Mark Todd all the way for me!
