I usually tent to try and buy good makes second hand but whilst looking for a under rug combo as mine is trashed beyond repair (been donated to my dads dog kennel!) I came across Rhinegold Dakota full neck stable rugs which are really reasonably priced.
Do Rhinegold come up big or small in general? Horse usually takes a 6'9 rug.
Also my daughters pony has a "beefy" neck which not many brands account for, any ideas as to how one of these would fare?

I use the Rhinegold turnouts I have a few fleeces and summer sheets. Definately would say the beefy neck should be ok as can gape a bit on my TBs. I love thier fleeces and waffle sheet, great value for money. Size wise I have found depends on the actual type of rug. Thier lightweights come up large and tge heavyweights are about right.

I found their lightweights came up very small, tight across the chest and not much room in the neck (I have a chunky cob with a beefy neck). I'm afraid I don't rate their rugs at all. I also bought one for a not particular chunky WB and it was so tight in the neck and chest he couldn't put his head down to graze!

Hmm I don't rate them.

I have two (a mw combo turnout and a hw combo stable rug) and find they come up small. They are also very shallow and have an odd fit. They are not deep enough for my fairly normal shaped sports horse.

Okay as a 'make do' rug but I wouldn't buy another one. Prefer Shires for budget rugs.

I have a rhinegold dakota and really rate it. I find it quite good quality and it was used all of last winter on my youngster who liked to rip his rugs and it has survived. alot of people had them on my old yard and had uses them for many winters and they are still going strong! My horse is quite narrow and I find that rhinegold rugs are a little big for him around his chest but if your horse is fairly chunky it would probably be ok :)

Well that's answered that! Thanks.
I guess what one person hates another loves but in general they don't seem very popular.
I also thought after writing this post I think a horse at work has one and ive always disliked it. Not 100% sure its Rhinegold but almost. Will give it a miss.

Ive got a purple check 300g combo (think its the dakota) and i hate it. Its too tight on my tb neck and not deep enough. Got it washed before last winter and never used it. Tried a mw standard neck on a welsh d and again not deep enough even though it was a size up. I prefer amigo, mark todd and weatherbeetas for my tb.

Another one here who doesn't like them! I have a lightweight turnout by them, it's too small, the neck strangles him (that's if you can call it a neck as it bunches down), it pulls at his chest and comes up over his bum, and not only that but it lets water in, he was soaked through the other day, not amused.

Funnily enough I've not had a reply to the complaint I sent them.

I've had the spotty rainsheet. The neck was really tight and thè binding came away from the rug . Lasted me about a summer I think !

Not had a problem with them but they are small so always go up one size if you have a beefier type of horse!

They are short below, not generous enough really with their depth, but as under rugs and layers they are fine.

They are cheap and cheerful.

Like all rugs quality can be an issue! I did have a weatherbeeta last one summer, I sent it back to the manufacturer with the receipt and they replaced it without question. Standard buyers rights, product should be up to the job!

Only ever bought one rhinegold rug, and i'm still to this day unsure what type of horse it was made to fit!! It came up very long, but also very very short on my tb x!! (fine horse!) looked like a mini skirt!

I have a Rhinegold rug and can safely say it's probably going to last forever.

This is because it is complete garbage and will stay folded up in a corner somewhere and not be put back on a horse.

It's a turnout, with a combo neck. Possibly designed by someone who has never seen a horse, but had one described to him/her by a drunken friend with eyesight problems.
One of the most annoying things is the neck. Somehow the lining eats the outer fabric and it crumples down and flips the lining side to the outside, at the top few inches.
