Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a rhodesian ridgeback girl puppy. My friend has one which I've gotten to know really well and is adorable! Apart from her, I don't really know much about them. Any thing would be really helpful, how much should I expect to pay for a bitch puppy? Are they different colours? Any characteristics associated with the breed?
Many thanks!

The come in a range of wheaten colors from light to dark.. as you can se my boy is VERY dark (Which is what I wanted) they also come in a liver color too (called liver nose)

Prices range for a pedigree from around £600-£1200+

Make sure you see the parents of the pups, assess their temperement and are confident that the breeder knows their stuff.

Good luck and I hope you are prepared for a very cheeky..

loving, friendly, stunning, active dog.

I would urge that you don't have a ridgeback pup alone, we have the other dog (as above) and I would never have a single pup on their own, so unless you can be there for the pup all the time (not just ridgies, any pup) then I suggest you think about whether you have enough time for an athletic/energetic dog.

Oh my god he looks gorgeous!! Makes me want one now! We already have a manchester terrier but she's pretty old now and realistically we don't think she'll be around that much longer. We're also in the process of getting a greyhound pup. So my ridgeback pup wouldn't be alone. I'm not planning on getting one just yet, want to make sure I get the right one and am still keeping my options open - there are so many breeds out there I dont know about, hence my other post!
Many thanks for all your info tho, so adorable!

Hey KFIT wondered where you had gone. How did you get on With Finn at the vet with his eyes?

Here is my girlie. She is 8 years old and the light of my life. She lives with two Rotties, a cat and several horses and gets on with them all perfectly. She is very protective of her property but not at all aggressive. I would not hesitate to have more RR they are very loving and affectionate dogs but as you can see from Finns pictures they can grow very large so need to be well trained. Dogs tend to be bigger than bitches but thay are strong muscular dogs. Hope you get your RR soon and enjoy!!

His op was a success however one of the eyes the gland is too large and is still protruding, however stitched and secure, out of the thid eyelid so got to call vet tomorrow as she was considering taking a portion of the gland away. Will keep you posted. xx

[/ QUOTE ]Yup as I said Finny was last weighed 3 weeks ago at 8 stone, he currently stands 29.5inches to the shoulder... and is like a bull in a china shop at the moment - so cute with it though!!.. When he send a drink flying with his tail he looks as if to say "whoops soowwwwy!!"

Good news for Finn. Hope you had a good hol. We just came back from a week in San Francisco and Matty went mad when we came home. (She was looked after by her Nana at home)! So mad that she caught her tail on the wall and it started to bleed. There was blood everywhere so we had to put a plaster on it!!! She was not impressed.

Just so he doesn't feel left out:-

This is Ki, 2.5 years old. Haven't really got anything to add to KJFIT's comments. Great big, fun, bouncy dogs with a huge sense of humour. Ours is a big wimp, we love him to bits. He is great with the kids though can be a little over-exuberant and this can worry smaller children, especially if they are not used to dogs. Ki is ok with our chickens, but I am never far away - wouldn't like to push my luck, he is a hound after all and his instincts to chase are very strong.

All the bitches I have met are far more gentile than the boys and very much "ladies"
