A friend is selling her horse and is currently competing. I suggested she put a ribbon in his tail so people know, but there seems to be a bit of confusion as to what the different colours mean.

Some say white denotes horse is for sale, others say stallions should wear a white ribbon, and still others say that for endurance and Trec a stallion should wear blue.

So, what colour = for sale, and what colour = stallion?

Maybe it's not such a great idea, since if nobody actually knows the correct colour anyway (and a lot of my friends didn't even know about ribbons and thought just they looked pretty!) they won't realise the horse is up for grabs!

Tbh I don't think its worth putting a ribbon in. Apart from red and green different colours seem to mean different things for different disciplines.

Maybe worth letting the organisers know he's for sale, might be read out over the loud speaker when you enter the ring (if she's jumping that is)

Type up an advert on a4 and stick it on each side of his quarters ;)

LOL - we were going to hand write some posters like you see on cars - you know, the ones in black felt pen when the letters start off about 6" high then gradually decrease to about 2" by the end of the ad!

Thanks for the replies - if nobody knows what they mean, it's a bit pointless going to the trouble of buying and plaiting in anyway!!!

I always thought white was for stallions and I am pretty sure that is what it has meant on the stallions I've seen as they certainly weren't all for sale! However, recently I saw the colours noted as the above poster's put. I never knew about the green either though but may use that one!
