hey
am looking to do my trailer test in 2 weeks. eeeek! anyway will be buyimg a jeep and am looking at trailers for sale I can't afford to spend a lot but was suprised to see the rice beaufort doubles for like 1500?! presumably they are quite old? anyway what are genral thoughts on them? are they good? Ive always travelled in my friends ivor williams so only know them. Ads say will take 16.2 and 7ft head room. is that about right?? any thoughts or opinions welcome :-)

AFAIA, Beauforts are big, heavy trailers capable of carrying horses of 17.2. Unless your horse is a biggy, I would go for something lighter like a Rice Europa of IW 505, your vehicle will ues less fuel towing one of these!

i was toying qith the 505 but people have said prob too small. I have a 16.2/3 KWPN not heavy middlewight but middleweight. Typical warmblood. He travels really well though. Not sure what would be too small really?!

Well I ve got a Rice Beaufort Popular. Its fairly old but its lightweight & 700kg approx very sound with new floor that I am selling as its too low at 7ft for my new horsey 16.1 ID/Cob.
Cannot see it being able to carry a 17.2hh horse, no way!!! - Think you must mean the Rice Beaufort 60. Thats the one for the big draughts/warmbloods, and thats what I plan to get next.

Ignoring the pony, cute as he is...that's my trailer in the background. I've no clue how old it is, almost literally weighs a tonne at around 900kg but is solid and well maintained. I think if you're looking at older trailers you need to make sure the coupling, floors, ramps, electrics, braking systems etc are all in working order and service it regularly!

I got it for £800 but they do tend to go for around £1000-£1500 if they're well looked after. I am sure it's a Beaufort of some kind but not sure which. I've carried 2 16.2 + in there with room to spare.
Most horses seem to like it.

I tow it with this bad boy. Excuse the ding at the front, I didn't see a bollard in a car park, wondered why I couldn't drive out of the space!
