Let me preface this by saying my husband is one of the best horseman, can fix anything, and a super husband. But, he's a one hand typer with everything either capital(shouting) or lower case with sporadic punctuation. He sticks to mostly motorcycle forums and has never ventured into the dark recess of a mostly woman horsie board! LOL! Oh for crap sake, he's on the computer and has my log in info up!

So he wants to know best wood for tongue and groove. And should he put diamond plate on top of that and then mats? Or best way to do it. Wait he says, tongue and groove then navy ply on top and then the mats.

TIA
Terri

For our new lorry floor dad is putting down gorilla wood(think that's what he said) as its stronger. Also make sure its the right thickness. And don't seal the rubber matts as you can't check the floor underneath without tearing them up.

Should add we just bought this box today on a whim. €300 and it will be super nice when done. Right now looks sad but seems like a really nice box. Never had a Rice before. And bonus it was full of clean dry straw. I bed with straw. Yeah me!

I have done a few

They are designed for ordinary tongue and groove floorboard with thin hardwood planks running side to side to spread the weight. Because the boards join together it stops too much bounce on the floor.

You should not replace with ply as the supports are too far apart.

However you can put ply on top instead of the hardwood planks to spread the weight. It doesn't have to be very thick.

I used to put rubber on top as well, but it all adds to the weight. If weight is an issue look at aluminium planks.

I used to get my boards from the recycled timber place, sometimes the ply as well.

i used T&G to do my floor with 3/4 inch.
then i used 1/2 inch ply on the top to spread the weight.
if you only use ply the trailer will be weeker because the T&G is part of the structure.
