Rice trailer floor

i need a little help

i took the floor up on my trailer last weekend due to it having very soft spots. the floor was made up with T&G running lenght ways (not very thick) with the rice hard wood flooring on the top.

its had extra braces fitted to support the floor.

Is it better to use T&G again??
or would it be better to use thicker planks running width ways and leave a inch gap inbetween each board so that any water can run straight out istead of siiting on top of the wood??
i would also cover in rubber matting due to having the gaps.

any thoughts on this would be appreciated. thanks

I've done a few over the years. I wouldn't do what you are suggesting.

The T&G are designed to go lengthways, they are part of the strength of the trailer. I always put some thin ply on top instead of the Rice hardboard running across. Its only to spread the weight, so too much doesn't go on any one of the underboards. I then put rubber on the top.
