Does anyone know how these originally fastened shut? Mine is finally nearly refurbed but there were no door fittings and I cannot for the life of me find anything that works. Its a triple and I think the bigger version of the Beaufort if that makes any difference.

They originally had a single door handle with an integral lock. TBH it's the only bit of poor design on the whole trailer, as otherwise the Beaufort is bullet-proof. The single mid-point catch isn't strong enough to stop a horse or pony bursting through it if they get over or under the breast bar.

Personally I favour a couple of welded on catches with pins that go through them like the ones on the rear ramp. That won't be coming open accidentally.

we had a richardson, and yup single door twist handle with a latch and lock in the middle. Much better than people's old ifors with the pins when you wanted to shut the door behind you to go for a pee :p. (and as a result the ifor we replaced it with got an uprgrade ;) )

Duh! I cant believe I didn't think of those. I think they are called ldrop locks something like that anyway. I cant believe it was just a handle like that. This is the triple so designed to have a horse right next to it, and if I take the carriage its where my pony will be, and having had one come out of a jockey door, that's quite enough for me!

And it wont work anyway. The door is fine but the bit I have issues with is the lip. Its got a strip of metal at 90 degrees to it, so there's only 1cm or so to put the latch bit. I think I'll just take the angle grinder to it and cut out 3 sections for latches. Having taken the pee thing into account, I'm going to put a hook and eye on the inside. That way I can shut it, but there's no chance of the pony locking it shut accidentally!

If a pin dropped down slightly when you are inside you would be trapped. I always thought that the original design of Ifor door was dangerous. I much prefer the more modern latch design as per my 510 Classic.

Oh I was thinking the pin would be on the door, so sideways on. I see what you mean now though.
