Just wondering how anyone finds these boxes. Have always had ifors but am considering a rice now as the time has come to make a change. I would be looking at the beaufort or even the beaufort 60 (the larger one). I would be hoping for a newer model with the plastic floor.

Any comments on build quality or how the horses find them to travel in?

Thanks.

I had a Rice for 15 years and it was excellent. I part exchanged it for a Richardson at almost what I paid for it. It worked out it had cost me £53 per year in depreciation! The Richardson I had for 6 years and just sold it in an as new condition because it was built so well and got nearly what I paid for it again. So I'm a fan. (Just bought a lorry as my savings now worth nothing and I deserved a horsey treat).

I am a complete Rice fan!

I love the build quality althought it is not as good as in the past but still very good. I have the B60 as my mare was a bad traveller. They tow beautifully and she is far happier now.

The B60 comes with all the extras automatically but if you go for the Beaufort i would say have windows put in (The sliding ones) and have back top doors as extras definitely.

I also find the water carrier is really useful as are the saddle racks.

The only negative can be the size if you have to travel small ponies. So for anything under about 13 hh it is really too big!

My mare is 16.2 and there is loads of room in the B60.

Thanks for the info. I have seen two B60s advertised second hand that look interesting so that is encouraging to hear good reports. Do you have any comment oh how user friedly the ramps are as one thing I like about the hunter boxes is how easy they are to handle on that score. When you say that your mare was a bad traveller may I ask what type of box she had been in prior to the rice?

The ramps are very easy.

I used to have an old Beaufort which I thought was 7'6 head room but was only 7ft. It just wasnt big enough and I suspect she hit her head at some point.

When I sold it it had a lot of life left in it despite being over 20 years old, which is why I went for another Rice.

Another reason I went for the Rice is because knowing someone in the trade I was told there were less likely to be stolen than Ifors! Mainly I think because they are less easy to move by hand.

The only thing I would say is you need to learn to reverse the B60 to turn it round if you need to, as it is too heavy to move on your own by hand.

This is my 16.2hh in the B60. You can see how much room she has!

ETA The newer beauforts are &'6 headroom I think but definitely worth measuring if you are buying secondhand. I think mine was the beaufort Popular.

Also my husband is an engineer and he "sort of" chose for me on build quality!

Thanks again for the reply. Looks like she has plenty of room all right, very airy. I had heard about the theft issue too but thought it was due to resale and the numbers around compared to hunters. However whichever way if it is true then it's great! Now have to see how much I can get for my hunter the way things are here at the moment.
