I normally have Stuart Garrard do my horses' teeth however Stuart has recently had surgery and is out of commission until the end of the month (at least). Horses are already 2 months overdue (as could not get hold of Stuart) so have been looking at alternatives and heard good things about Richard Frost.

Will cost about £30 more as he needs to travel but do not mind extra cost if he is thorough and good with horses. Has taken Stuart a long time to get the boys relaxed (they used to go mental when having teeth done even through sedation).

So, any experiences of Richard Frost are welcome. Otherwise I might just waut another month (although no guarantee when Stuart will be able to slot us in so might be 6-8 weeks).

thanks in advance for comments.

I would happily recommend Richard, have used him for several years now, in fact he now does the teeth for most of the horses on the yard! I've always found him quiet and patient with the horses and a pleasant person to talk to.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just want someone who will do the job properly and is sympathetic to the horses. One is only 4 and this will only be his second dentist visit and he is very funny about his mouth/probably needs wolf teeth out.

I hate change. It took me a few gos to find Stuart. Trouble is the boys have started quidding and the baby is a baby and really needs his teeth doing every 6 months so I will bite the bullet and try Richard.

Thanks Splashgirl - my regular vet doesnt really like doing teeth and I prefer someone on the register hence booking Richard. Probably helpful that he is a vet as think the 4yr old needs to have his wolf teeth out so he will be able to do that under sedation.

Another thumbs up for Richard :)

Although I haven't had him check my new horses teeth yet he fixed a botched castration from another vet for me in a very professional manner.

He will be coming to check my boys teeth very soon!

Richard is s super vet and dentist. He is calm, and assured round the horses and I have never known anyone have a problem with him. He is though definitely a horse person not a people person, some people say he is a bit standoffish but after the first couple of visits you will warm to him. He has treated my horse for the last 6 years and is not always the easiest but he has never lost it with him when at times he could have.

Thanks MB and Dreckly; I booked him yesterday so just waiting to see when he can squeeze us in. We are just teaching the youngster to work on a contact so want to make sure his teeth are all ok and I like having youngsters checked every 6 mths.

Just as an upate, Richard came out to do my lot last week and he was fab - have now switched permanently to him for teeth.

Glad you were pleased, as the above poster said, it's always a worry when you recommend someone, he visited us the other week, the number on the yard using him seems to increase every time he visits! :)
