Thinking of getting this chap out for day - with 3 other mates too this makes it JUST affordable. Anyone else had experience with Richard or similar?

I haven't had him out, but years ago I couldn't load one of mine and got his video and used his methods - I have never had a problem with loading since. I went to one of his demonstrations recently and was very impressed - he talks a lot of commonsense and explains problem-solving in a way that most of us mere mortals can follow! I wouldn't hesitate to get him out if I were you.

he rents a yard at the eq center I keep my horse at, and he is very professional and polite, I've watched him work a few times and it was amazing - couldnt recommend him more! I'd have no worries about asking him for help, although it helps that I wouldnt have to pay his callout charge

Hi. Max came out to me last week to help with a problem I have with my horse.

To watch him work was amazing. By the end of the session problem sorted, I also have the tricks to put this right should he go back to his naughty ways. Everything was done with complete kindness and understanding of the horse. There was no force or pain used - absolutely brilliant!!

I havn't got a bad word to say about Max. Have seen many of his demos, been to his yard courses and know a few friends who have had him out to their horses - hes a fantastic horseman - thats the only way to describe him. 100% true horseman

i always had real trouble with one of mine catching him well i phoned his secretary one day for advise as i tried every trick in the book and needed 2 catch well she got back in touch with me within the hour after having a word with him about it and advised me on what 2 do

Poghag wonder if you could let me know how you get on and what he charges etc. I am at my wits end with my horse and he is almost at the last chance saloon! He lost his best friend a couple of months ago and seems to have completely lost the plot, I now can't even hack him out alone without his trying to constantly buck and rear and am desperate for some practical advice as my horse has a long history of being in pain and having behavioural issues, so if i thought it would help him, I would give it a go but don't want to waste my money as have spent out many thousands on my horse over the last couple of years! So need to have someone who knows what they are doing and is tried and tested.

Sorry to poach your post!

Richard Maxwell is £400 per horse and he stays about 3 - 4 hours. He's a very nice man with clever methods but in my experience they didn't really work. People with horses who have problems on the ground (loading etc...) seem very impressed with him. My horse really does have an extreme behavioural problem about being ridden. This could be due to some deep-rooted memories or possibly due to some unidentifiable source of pain but the fact is for £400 you expect to see results, especially as someone else has achieved results with her since. I would recommend you go to a local, more reasonably priced professional first, since the problem is ridden, then if they get somewhere with the horse they can work with you as well. Richard Maxwell is all over the country and some problems are too complicated to get to the bottom of in an afternoon.

just playing DA here-but would a severe behavioural problem unde saddle realistically be resolved in 3-4 hours? dont get me wrong and not criticising either party-I dont know your horses full story and Maxwell is a great horseman but sometimes these things take consistancy over time.

i would have him if i could afford it - he has been out twice in a month to my yard for problem boxing/shoeing and has given great results. Good luck!

Thats what I meant you just put it better! I just meant that she would better putting her money towards training with someone reputable in the area who can help long term, not just on one day.

Thanks everyone! I think we'll definitely go ahead because none of us are having problems, we're all just really interested in his methods. I'm restarting a horse and 2 others are rehabilitation jobs so I think it'll all be educational fun. Beth H if you come back to this thread how shall I let you know how it goes - is it possible to do personal mail stuff on this forum? I'm very new so don't really know my way round yet. Happy Christmas all.
