Hi all,

I took my youngster to do her first ridden showing class yesterday (plan to event her not show so it was just for experience!) there wasnt a huge choice of classes we could enter so we entered the ridden cob class (she's 3/4 welsh D 1/4 cob) we got placed 6th out of 7 which I was happy with as I messed up in the individual show and for some reason we picked up the wrong canter lead twice (unusual for her!) however, when the judge was giving out the rosettes she commented on how nice she was and asked me if she was a fell?!? So now I'm wondering if she was judging her as a fell as I wouldn't have thought a fell would be classed as a cob?!?

Any ideas??

Thankies, apologies for poor grammar, I tend to ramble!

I wouldn,t worry too much unless it was a big show if it was just a local like the one I just took my yearling too the judges just pick what they like on the day not what is correct. I was 4th out of 4 and 5th out of 7 would have hoped for better but I let yearling down on the trot up. I also had just taken her there for the trip out and could not have been more pleased with how she behaved.

Hi there,

Thanks totally agree local show and I wasn't worried about the placing just thought it was odd the judge didn't put her as welshy, she got placed 3rd in the m&m in hand and that judge instantly knew she was welsh! Strange!

Congrats on your successful day with your yearling!

Typical of local shows, not all the judges have a clue what is what

I've had one marked down for not being up the standard appaloosa but she has no appy in her!!
I would not worry too much at local level as everyone says it was only for experience.

Not only small shows, I went to a P(UK) qualifier this weekend & the judge said quite openly, without prompting, that she knew little about Mini Shetlands !! She could at least have picked up a book the night before. Also my dapple grey New Forest is always being taken for a Connie even though he is typical of his breed.

Thanks guys guess it's common then! One of the competitors made the same mistake I guess it because she's black and I keep her mane fairly long!
