Hi i have a 15.1 piebald coloured. I have done some local ridden coloured classes with him but i am wanting to do some more and bigger classes with him however i am not 100% sure how to show him as he doesnt fall into any 'type'. He is a irish cob but isnt that chunky and legs are too long (i think) to be a show cob. To show him as a native but he hasnt really got the mane? I am so stuck and need some help!!! :) Thanks Zoe

My coloured cob sounds similar to yours, more of a native type but not enough hair to carry it off!
So she went from this:

Going to do some cob classes next year, i think she looks much smarter/more cob like now she has been hogged :)
Shes turned away now for a while and am hoping she will fill out a bit more yet, shes currently 15hh :)

I have made an album on my profile, i cant upload it to my post :s

Def NOT native. He's a MW type.
Now my CC, trying to be helpful here & please don't shoot me down:
I'd try to get a straighter cut saddle to show off the shoulder better.
Plain hat, plain jacket with buttons that blend in.
Learn to hold the double reins correctly (top rein crosses over bottom rein)
Lose the martingale stop from the reins
Billet studs on the cheekpieces rather than lower buckles.
Maybe thin the tail a bit as this is quite thick.

Good luck! :)

If you are not going into it seriously i.e. correct turnout for you and the horse, IMO it doesn't really matter.

At local level all types get thrown into the ring together, usually with a few palominos and duns.

Given that I would keep him how you prefer.

I've got the same thing with my little splodgey chap. He's welsh D x arab x saddlebred, so a cross between three breeds that are meant to have manes. His breeding also means that build wise he doesn't fit nicely into a 'type'.

After a punk yearling season with a ridiculous short mane I gave up and grew his mane - long term I won't be pulling/plaiting him so I figured for the little showing I do he can stay hairy.

If i showed him plaited he would then go against hunter type, sports horse, riding type etc which isn't really him?? lol :s

Not trying to be negative here. But if you dont think he's a plaited, traddy, native or cob, perhaps showing at a higher level isn't where you should be going with him.

If I had to choose, I would say leave him plaited.

To go to Windsor you will need navy velvet hat with flesh coloured harness, tweed jacket, cream shirt & tie with tie pin, beige jods, long black boots, show cane.

As you will have a ride judge, I agree about changing the saddle, and loosing the rein stops. I think this is a better picture

Oh and loose some length off his tail and pull it, dont plait

You can get some nice tweed jackets off ebay (not a blue/grey - more a brown or or green), put your hair in a bun as well.
No bling :D Oh, and chop about 6" off the tail to show the hindquarters off.

Have a look how the professionals turn out. Good luck, and I think he is superbly clean for a coloured - you must have put some hard graft in there :D

I dont know about everyone else but I was saying plait the mane and PULL the tail. Plaited tails looks unprofessional these days.

I wouldn't hog I dont think he has the neck for it and he looks long in the back for a cob but that could just be the pic.

I'd agree with rockysmum on this - haven't seen a plaited tail in the upper levels of showing for many years, only at local level.
Be interesting to see side on shots too (without tack)
