May as well add the report in instead of doing two seperate posts. OK, so we were at the yard at about 9.40, I had Ali plaited up since last night (I put old tights over it so they'd be kept nice and clean and wouldn't come out so easily), and luckily they were all still in and neat, and no nasty poo are pee stains to get rid of!

We used the rope method, and got him loaded within 20 seconds, no panic at all. We arrived at the show at about 10.45, took forever to find the secretaries tent for my number but eventually found it. Picked up the catalogue as well, 13 in my class which wasn't too bad, but I recognised a few of the names as RDS competitors

At about 11.15 once I had done all the finishing touches, I rode Ali around the lorry and trailer parking to get him used to the surroundings, he was quite excited, but was responding well to everything I asked him to do. Everyone was warming up in the ring which we were competing in, he was so well behaved, I thought he'd be quite naughty tbh!

So we all started out by trotting round, then going into canter, Ali was very responsive when we had to go back to trot and walk. People were called in in provisional order, and at that stage I was 3rd, which I was quite surprised about! Then the judge had to get on him, judge was a nice guy and Ali behaved well with him even though he can be a tricky horse. We then had to strip off the saddles to trot up, Dad was on the sidelines fortunately with my grooming stuff! I knew I'd be severely marked down in the conformation section as Ali has a splint on his inner foreleg. He trotted up really nicely, although I could barely run in my boots and gaiters!

We were all called back in, and I was second last out of 13 people, but I'm over the moon with Ali as he was very well behaved. I knew we'd come at the bottom as he needs a lot more muscle build up and he isn't a typical hunter (they didn't have Riding Horse classes, which he'd be much more suitable for).

Line-up after I had trotted up (still lots more people left to trot up)
And when we were leaving he loaded in an instant with the rope method, so a good end to the day

I was also the only under 21 in the class so got a few odd looks from spectators!

well done
smile.gif
bet your glad about you day

one thing that stuck out to me is the string/ribbon around you number! see if you can get some matching colour elastic, then you can loop either end and tie it around you button holre, looks less obvious!:)

Well done I am so glad you enjoyed it and he was good. See, what did I say about the variety of turnouts? (you looked very respectable by the way) - what gives with the bloke in the crash hat and waistcoat??!!

Are you going to do some more hunter showing? Mine is out with hock problem, am really missing it - Clogher Valley Show on Weds, will prob go even tho I'll get depressed. Other horse is like yours, more a riding horse than hunter.

Did the judge annoy you when he got on? I like the no-nonsense hands on hips pose!!
grin.gif

i like clogher show - although the pony workers take forever...

wat show were u at today? tatts?

were the "names" in the top 5?

Ooh where are you? I didn't go anywhere today, got too many horses in and oh is away with fishing buddy. Clogher Valley def runs on Irish time, but not quite as bad as Balmoral (there at 2pm for 4pm class, didn't jump till 8pm, 2 mins in ring and home!) (Sorry for hijacking post)

The horrible orange twine/string came with our numbers and everyone was wearing it and I had no black string lol. Will bring some next time I go showing definitely though!

I know, that guy in the crash cap is actually a point to point trainer, his horse had a lot more muscle on him than my lad, that man came last though
tongue.gif
There seem to be no riding horse classes around here, and the ridden hunter class today wasn't split into 3 categories. I always bought my hands on my hips, very bad habit
blush.gif
Probably was rude of me to actually do that
blush.gif
Nobody was impressed with the judges riding though...

Ossory Show, small enough
smile.gif
The names were indeedy, but their horses were turned out and muscled up to perfection so they deserved it

Don't worry about it!
grin.gif
It was the Ossory Show, quite small although a lot of people go with their young horses for experience. 8pm!?!? That's madness! Luckily we were running on time, we headed back once Ali was properly cooled down and loaded, luckily Dad actually enjoyed himself!

well done on your good day. You had fun thats the main thing

If i were to be very critical, get rid of the orange string (plaiting thread is a wonderfuly versitle thing when youve forgotten your elastic) and chop at least 6 inches off that tail (the bay in the last pic has it about right) the long tail makes him look long backed so shortening it will balance the picture more and your confo marks may improve. Also a splint isnt the end of the world quite a few show horses have them
