Okay, so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to the showing side of the riding world but want to get my boy out there this summer, just to a few local things, nothing big or anything that is going to qualify me for anything (well I hope not anyway! :S)
I'm looking at the Somerton Horse Show schedule, and like the look of the ridden hunter and riding club classes for my IDxTB. Can people give me a quick run down of what is expected of me and the horse in these classes, tack and turnout etc. Oh! Also, would I be allowed to enter BOTH of these classes at the same show? Or is that a no-no?

you could enter both classes! is he a hunter type or more a rc type? need a photo really! but brown tack, hunters better in a double bridle, rc in a snaffle! brown numnah that fits the saddle, leather girth no boots! rider navy hat with flash strap, nice tweed jacket, long boots shirt and tie for hunters, stock for rc, yellow or beige breeches long black leather boots (could be brown for hunters), spurs for hunters no spurs for rc. the horse needs to be able to walk trot canter and gallop either way in company and in control! ridden hunters the judge will ride and usually rc you will do an individual show! both classes normally require you to strip and run in hand walk and trot! Find a showing person in your area and get a lesson! and go watch a few local ridden hunters and rc classes and see what they are doing! good luck, and if unsure ask what they would like to see! smile and thank the judge!!! horse should be plaited, hunters tails should be pulled, rc you could plait tail, anf fully trimmed (chin, heels, ears, top not etc)

Perfectly acceptable and normal to do both. Ridden hunter is for his type, riding club horse is any type of horse and seeking the best for riding club activities (so one that can jump and do low level dressage nicely basically). :)
