Good afternoon all

This has probably been asked a hundred times before but here goes.

I have decided I would like to do some ridden veteran classes with my black TB x Welsh Section D mare. She is 19 this year but in fine form. We have some local low key classes coming up shortly and feel this would be a good place to start to find our feet. Shes my first horse and we would like to do a bit of everything (have already show jumped and dressaged!).

Looking for advice on turnout. I could get away with riding her as a TB or in her native format, I believe the major difference would be plating/not plaiting and fancy browband/plain browband.

I dont want to spend a fortune so would i be able to get away with :

Black hunter bridle
Black jumping saddle
Black numnah
Tweed navy jacket
White shirt/blue tie
Beige jods
Black short boots and chaps
Black/blue riding gloves
Black riding hat or blue velvet hat cover for my skull cap

All help gratefully received. The Horse Society guidance is a little vague.

Thanks
Maz

At local level you'll be absolutely fine :)

My understanding is navy would be better to show her as a TB - I think you lean to tweed for natives, and can always go for a fancy browband if you want to go down that route without spending too much

For a first attempt you're not too far off. Do you have a picture so we can see what type she is? This will determine whether tweed or navy is correct. As she is part bred I would trim and plait her up irrespective.
If you're willing to spend a few pounds then there are some cheap improvements you can make:
Get a pair of brown (leather) gloves, never black!
Make sure you wear a hairnet and long hair (if you have it) in a bun
Wash your white shirt with a new yellow duster to make a cream shirt, it will enhance the look without spending any money!
Blue velvet on skull cap will be better than black hat.
Will you carry a show cane? See if a friend has one to lend you for your first time out.
Finally what are your chaps like? Gaiters or long boots are preferred but I'm not encouraging you to spend loads of money for a first time out.

Part breds are always plaited. If you are going down the hunter route to avoid buying a new browband then wear tweed. Brown gloves regardless of tack colour, cotton £2 jobs are fine. Make sure your numnah fits your saddle neatly. If your velvet ccover fits your skull neatly then wear that otherwise the black will be fine.

Most importantly have fun, don't wear earrings and most veteran classes don't extend/gallop. Check with the secretary first if you are unsure.

Thank you for the replies, not sure how to upload a photo. Ill give it a go shortly. Shes a bit of a mixture - welsh section D mane and tail and a bit finer through the body! Im definitely going to give it a shot and have some fun
