Ride Alert.

Yep, I do. Found it to be very easy to use. I had a pack with a hat sticker, a tag for his saddle and a wrist band in. They've all lasted well (I've had them for about 18months now). It's well worth it IMO just for the peace of mind.

I think it's a great idea but another rider at our yard decided that she wasn't prepared to pay that amount of money and bought two of the dog tags that hold a piece of rolled up paper. One was put on the d-ring of her saddle and the other on her hat and they are both very brightly coloured. She wrote telephone numbers on both and the horses information on the saddle one and hers on the one attached to the hat.

You're right, that is a much cheaper alternative! :D If you have allergies or take regular medication or your horse has any particular "quirks", I really like the fact that it's all stored on the RideAlert database so the emergency services can act upon that information. You can store an awful lot of information with them, you're not limited to what you can fit on a small, rolled up piece of paper.
If, however, there's not much information to store about you (you don't have allergies etc), then I think the dog tag is a brilliant idea!

If you have allergies you might already have a medi alert bracelet or locket so the dog tags would still work IMHO

Another idea (which moor walkers use) is to let someone else know (roughly or detailed) where you are going and how long you expect to be, then if you are longer and haven't contacted them to say all's well they can call the emergency services or a search party.

But this does rely on someone else being available and reliable to do this for you.

My vet provided little brass dog tags that can be attached to the bridle or the saddle D ring with her details on it. I like this as if someone found my horse at least she's contacted as first call. I must dig mine out and use it though!
