Hi,
I have a 5 yo ex racer retired in April 21. Taking things really slow and to build his back strength up I'm doing lots of ride n lead n up n down hills. He does this in a rope halter currently and roller breastplate mainly so he can have hi viz on. He's doing great and changed Shape so much. We are up to about 6 miles mix of walk and trot once or twice a week.
The main thing I want advice on is getting him to work more over his back he has a tendency to hold is head quite high and poke his nose typical exracer stance. No back issues etc he's had the works teeth physio osteopath heart check etc, Are there any aids I could use while ride n lead that will encourage him to work over his back. I've been thinking about a chambon but just not sure as don't really use gadgets. I have no facilties to lunge etc he does hack under saddle a few times a month. Il be starting him properly in the spring after a year out. But would like him to start to learn to round over his back.
Thanks!
Thankyou!
