Does anyone use this feed ? I have been recommended it due to my horses possible alfalfa allergy/intolerance.
I have never used any Allen and Page feeds before and I wondered what people feed it with ? I will be trying an exclusion diet but I need a chaff with no alfalfa - not sure what the best out there is, as I've always fed a Dengie product before.
 
it fizzed my horse up, as for chaff most standard chaffs are oat i would just check the label before you buy it or ring a feedline they are usually helpful
 
i think all dengie chaffs have at least a small ammount of alfa in them, the only exception may be good-doer, you will have to check, you could try a dryed grass as your chaff.
 
I fed it to my old boy for exactly the same reason - alfalfa allergy. Had no problems, he loved the feed - I remember it has added mint and smells gorgeous. I mixed it with mollichop with no probs. Also, the moment someone mixed it with Happy Hoof by accident (has a bit of alfalfa in it) his lumps and bumps and grumpy behaviour came back within a day so for me (and him) it worked fine.
Its such a shame you can't get samples too often these days although I remember I did get a money off ticket at the A&P stand at some show I was at.

i feed a small amount to my tb... he hotted up on too much so he now only gets half a small scoop a day... dunno if that does anything at all though!!!

meant to be fine for horses with intolerances and those is light work. I have a fact sheet somewhere if you would like me to email it to you... just pm me if you'd like it.
 
My horse was positive tested to wheat and Alfalfa, what a nightmare trying to sort feed out, especiall y the wheat allergy. I rang round and Mollichaff do alfalfa free chaff, they have a few and some do have it in but the cherry version doesnt if I remember rightly. They do have a website and if you read it all carefully it does tell you.
As for Ride and Relax I tried that too but my horse just wouldnt eat it. Its wierd as nothing changed from cutting his allergents out and Im now back on Hifi, Topspec and a handful of Pasture Mix.

good doer does have alfalfa in it. i use it for my boy.
Not alot, as it is primarily straw.
 
i use ride and relax and love it, smells really nice and flint loves it. I feed half a scoop of it with hifi-original twice a day and have a happy horse

It is only this year she seems to have a problem with the Alfa A I'm feeding, she has had it in previous winters fine with hi fibre nuts and speedi beet, this year I upped the alfa a and dropped the hi fibre nuts - and she developed lumps and bumps and was generally a bit grouchy and itchy, vet suggested the Ride and relax.
I may be able to get away with feeding Hifi in the future but I just can't feed her anything with alfa a as a main ration right now.
I contacted Allen and page to get more info on it too and they have sent me a £3 voucher towards it, I'm chuffed and off to get some tomorrow!
 
I feed R n R to my horse who is allergic to molasses. He has been on it for two and half years, has never fizzed up and he has been fed a large amount as he was being evented and he is 17.1
He is fed R n R with graze on or any other grass instead of chaff as most chaffs are covered in molasses
 
I feed Ride and Relax to my pony he goes mad for it - thinks it is the tastiest thing on earth! I mix it with good doer but good doer has alfalfa in it.
 
I bought some this week. The Doll seems to really like it so far (not that she's a fusspot, but she really cleaned the bowl out), I've been feeding it with D&H Just Grass - which the A&P feedline said was perfect. Only time will tell whether she'll still be a mentalist or not!!
 
Started the ride and relax today, only a handful but it was gobbled up at a rate of knots so I think it will go down well!
Only time will tell if the higher starch levels affect her! I haven't found anything yet that has sent her off her head so I hoping this won't either!
I'm going to have major problems getting hold of it though, not a popular feed over here and I was lucky as only one feed store did have a bag - I'm going to have to ring and order it if I want more!
