My friend is looking for a sensible allrounder for low level endurance, unaff SJ and dressage and maybe a bit of hunter trialling and hunting. The horses from Ride Irish (www.rideirish.co.uk) seem to be exactly the type she's looking for-does anyone have any experience buying from them?
ta muchly!

I have heard that the prices are very high and the horses are sometimes younger than advertised. Although i must admit some of their horses are really nice!

My mare's previous owners bought her from Ride Irish. I love the look of their horses but have heard they are quite high priced. As far as I know they have quite a good reputation. I would definitely go look for a new horse from them if I were looking and could afford it.

I rang about a horse from them last year and as people have said their prices are high but the horses themselves seemed lovely if your willing to pay

The fact that many vets won't vet a horse there says a lot...

Why wont they? My mare had a full 5 stage vetting in 2007 there.

This is very interesting. I was out show jumping and got talking to a guy with a lovley, genuine bay horse. I am looking for one so i asked where he got it. And he was from Ride Irish, he then said the horse was 100% how they had described him and they were so happy they have just brought another horse from them. His mother said they are not cheap but you get what you pay for and they come with a warrenty so if you dont like them after a month you can send them back and they will find you another horse (No Money Refund)
Hope this helps

When I was looking to buy I saw several horses that were advertised on their website on several other website with same description but with different contact details, There was one horse I liked but I couldn't see her as she wasn't at the yard. When I started to ask around I was then told that perhaps their horses were too green and young for me.

I think Rapkyns have a more established reputation

Saying that my boy in my sig I since found out after I bought him went through a dealer who hasn't got a brilliant reputation and my boy is lush

I went to Ride Irish when i was looking for a horse, the lad (can't remember his name..) was nice enough and a good kind rider. The horse i tried was too much for me and quite green but he said he'd keep an eye out as he gets horses in all the time.
Then when i told a friend i had been she went on to say that a dealer friend of hers sent all the horses he couldn't sell onto them. i don't know whether or not this is true, but i went back to look at more of theirs regardless, didn't find what i was looking for there though.

My horse was purchased from Ride Irish. Whilst I wouldn't change him for the world, I think it is fair to say they were sparse with the truth and he has a few quirks that they were well aware of but didn't tell me about and told a few stories to cover them up. I have also heard of other people having bad experiences. I don't think I would go back to them.

I think any dealer that sells a lot of horses is going to have sold some good ones and some bad ones. If you go, be very cautious and don't necessarily believe what they tell you.

I went there when I was looking last yr and had seen some really nice ones on the website. When I got there I was informed that they had all been sold but they had others. There were a couple of nice ones, but they were SO overpriced, the ones in my price range (which was pretty decent) were nothing special. I explained that I was an experienced rider who had lost a bit of confidence and I tried one which in they tried to convince me a complete novice could ride which really wasn't the case. The guy (I forget his name) was really doing his best to persuade me but I wasn't having any of it. I think it's a bit hit or miss to be honest but be prepared to spend a lot of money!

About 3 years ago my friend sold her horse to RideIrish he was 14 yrs old he was fully passported as a Russian Don microchipped and freezemarked by my friend. When he was advertised for sale he was said to be 9 yrs old and the gave him an Irish name even though he came with a full history so they didn't have to make up a name. He was advertised as anybodys ride but he was definitely quirky although not nasty by any means.

Not sure why they did this as anyone could look up the freezemark or microchip details. Perhaps they did not want to put buyers off by his age but say it was a mistake in the advert or something at the viewing because he was sold and as far as I know the new owner is very happy with him.

Be very, very careful. I heard from a reliable source the story of a vet who turned up 30 mins early there to vet a horse and caught them giving it a good workout on the lunge.

I also have personal experience and another friend has a verified experience of horses not being what they were advertised as.

Keep your eyes open and don't believe a word that comes out of their mouths.
