Hi All

I am thinking about going on the 4 day residential Ride With Your Mind course and was wondering if anyone had been on it/knew anyone who had been on it and what they thought?

I have physical limitations in my riding - seriously gammy left hip from birth and a damaged right knee from a riding accident and am finding 'conventional' teaching methods aren't helping me work round these issues. A good friend suggested going on this to help me... as a different approach my help me work out how to ride effectively even if I can't ride quite like everyone else?!

Thoughts and ideas appreciated and repaid with Jaffa Cakes....

Sorry, I don't know anything about it, but have pinched your cookies...:rolleyes:

What is the course ethos?

You're welcome to the cookies!

Its about learning how to use your body more effectively through your riding, with a little bit of NLP thrown in to help you find the most efficient way for you to ride. Telling me to use more left leg is a little counter productive a lot of the time as the leg is 50-60% weaker than the other (at 21 the Drs were amazed I was still walking... latest prediction was in a wheelchair by 30 - well I'm 2 yrs off that and no need of one yet!!! ;-) )

Its a combination of ridden work and ground work to build up strength and work on weaknesses...

One girl who lives down the road from us went on one evening clinic and her riding improved SO much literally in that one session. She was so much more stable in the saddle and she struggles because she has extraordinarily long legs and a small pony. Literally a 100% improvement- I was gobsmacked!

I used to have an instructor (she was a BHS 'II') who used the Alexander Technique method to teach.

I used her for years on and off, and if the weather was bad or I could'nt get horse to her had AT lessons in her house. I found it invaluable and it may be worth considering looking for an instructor who does similar in your area as a continual weekly/monthly lesson may work better with this sort of thing.

With regards Ride With Your Mind, I would love to do a course but too far away for me sadly.

Am sure you will enjoy it and it will be a very worthwhile experience. Sorry, don't know anybody who has been.

I have monthly Ride With Your Mind lessons, they are fantastic and even though I've ridden for nearly 40 years, they were a total eye opener when I had my first lesson two years ago. RWYM has brought my ex-racer on in leaps and bounds. I love them. I do think my particular RI though is very talented, I don't know much about Mary Wanless and I'm not keen on her from what I've seen in interviews.

My instructor is a senior RWYM coach, she is fantastic, my riding has improved so much. Its really good and gets you noticing how you ride and where your body is etc.... you could either do the course or you could have lessons from one of her trained instructors in your area - whereabouts are you from????

Thank you everyone for your replies. I like the idea of an intensive course then I could find an instructor locally perhaps? I am in Chertsey Surrey at the moment though looking to move Bella to Redhill as that's where I am now living with my OH.

Perhaps I could try a local instructor before i go and see if I like it? Definately think it's worth trying though!!

Thank you all again
