Hello everyone! Hope I have put this in the correct place?!
Anyway, I have decided to return to riding after a break of approx 15 years. 1st lesson is booked at last! However, I need to buy all new clothing this week, only last time I rode you had the choice of beige or beige johds lol, so now with all the choice I am stuck! I was thinking...
a) will I get a peaked hat, or a skull cap?
b) johdpur boots and chaps or long boots?
c) if johd boots and half chaps, do I buy johdpurs or breeches?
Please could someone guide me?!!
Thank you!

1. I like peaked hats but have both. Must admit I only wear my skull cap for times when I have to - like when it's in competition rules.
2. Short boots and chaps, personally.
3. Breeches, all the way!

Enjoy

skull cap - more multifunctional
either or here - personal choice really although boots and chaps are more versatile I would have thought
have no idea to this one - I thought breeches were for men pmsl shows what I know!!
Good Luck and enjoy!

Thanks everyone! Went to have a look at some stuff today, but thought I'd check and see what people thought before I got the pennies out lol! Should I need a back protector at first, or should I wait? Sorry for all the questions!

So glad for you that you are going to ride again - happy days ahead.

Just wanted to say that if you decide to get a body protector get it fitted carefully and make sure it is right for your particular conformation - otherwise you'll never wear it unless legally forced to!

Like you I used to ride when all riding gear was various shades of mud - still can't get used to tack shops full of pink and baby blue.

I think it must be lovely to have the chance to get loads of new stuff all in one go so enjoy yourself shopping whatever you decide to get. Only one piece of advice from me really and that is, don't turn up looking too perfect or some people may giggle. I used to keep my old horse at livery on a riding school yard and all the staff used to laugh at people turning up for their first lesson looking like one of the Whitakers. There again if you fancy pulling off that look, go for it - lol!

Peaked hat.. you risk looking like a teenager in a skull cap.

Black jodh boots, dark 1/2 chaps and dark breeches. I never knew you should wear breeches with 1/2 chaps, I always wondered why i felt so uncomfy with chaps over my jodhs

.

Off to buy breeches now!!

Katy, you can wear half chaps with jodphurs if you get the ones made from fairly thin material with the straps that go under your foot. You will be uncomfortable if you wear jodphurs with a cuff at the ankle as they will be too bulky under your half chaps.

I have a cuff at my ankle and I wear joddy boots and chaps. I'm perfectly confortable like that. They're fairly thick jods too.
