Does anyone else find it laughable that the non horsey fraternity are now desperate to get their hands on hunter wellies and barbour coats!?
That's not even mentioning riding boots, breeches, jodphurs etc!

Turns out us riders have been fashionable for years! ;-)

So what do you all think do you like that the county look is in!?
I know/suspect most of you are like me and probably don't give a monkeys so long as we're warm!!

Hugs to everyone and keep warm

Don't know about the 'country' look, I'm currently sporting the 'ski' look.... dug out my old ski jacket, trousers and hat, and have been toasty all over, even to the point of being a little 'glowing' at times!! :D

Haha agreed-Ski look is always in at this time of year ;-)
I saw a whole bunch of students in sheffield buying hunter wellies (obviously I know this is weather related), but also heard more and more people desperate to get their hands on barbour coats. I'm just gutted I didn't get one before they were in fashion, as I think the prices have gone up. Oh well, will just have to make do with my musto (which I love) and for now my ski jacket!!

There's a girl in my year who has been parading round in a barbour coat.
Couldn't stop telling everyone how unique it was.

Imagine her face when I told her they are two a penny in the countryside - and I'm the one that never bothers to look "nice" in sixth form!

in edinburgh when when you go into town you see hunters/toggi/duburry etc etc everywhere you go, and you just know they dont know one end of a horse from the other, but hey, if they are happy then go for it.

Well if people want to go out and buy hunter wellies, they will be gutted in a few months time when they are leaking!

Agreed I've never owned any hunters wellies. Maybe we can look forward to hi-viz workman jackets being in next spring ;-)
Also if looking dirty's ever in I'll be happy! I only have to look at a horse and I manage to get dirt on me, whereas some of my horsey friends always look emaculate!

Me too!
In John Lewis cafe I commented to hubbie that every one in the queue was wearing a "riding" jacket cept me!

I think it's great, means I can go into town in my normal clothes and no one will stare:D

Although it is embarrassing when you look for your purse in your coat pocket and you pull out a rubber ball, dog whistle, treats and assorted poo bags in the process at the till in Debenhams:D

I was on the bus the other day on the way to riding wearing muddy cream jods (I have no shame!) and a girl from my sixth form got on the bus wearing a clean version of the exact same thing - along with the rest of the hipster/barbour attire. I gave her a big grin and definitely embarrassed her!

Its fab, means I can go to the supermarket in my skanky yard clothes and not get too many odd looks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah no- you see, thats where you're wrong...;);)

Proper horse people look skanky and smell- even in V expensive gear:D

Townies/non-horse people wear the clothes and are actually clean.

I have a patient who comes in dressed in one of those Joules 'Mary King' jackets, and brown leather long boots. I know exactly where she lives and for a fact know the nearest she has ever been to a horse is watching the racing on telly......she hasn't a clue who Mary King is, she just liked the jacket:rolleyes:

Meanwhile, I'm wearing my knackered Ariat Mudbusters to work ( I drop daughter off at school on the way, its still knee deep in snow)....and they have to be left outside the room, covered in straw, for fear of stinking the gaff out.....

Have moved away from country fashions. Am now into snowboarding gear. But only because I found a brilliant high-tech/hi-spec snowboarding coat in TK Maxx at bargain basement price. It's one of the best riding coats I've ever had (yet not made for the horsey set!).

My OH will be the height of fashion next season then in his hi viz, we will make a striking pair, me in jods, mud & shavings him in workboots & hi viz. We may be interviewed for some fashion mags & everything....

I can usually add to that collection bits of hay and shavings.:p Get very funny looks at the checkout.

i like the country look, being at the yard every day its practical and i love the fact i can jazz it up a bit and look half decent but i dont like people who are townies wearing it and not understanding it. i suppose it pointless how i feel but its a bit like your faveroute band selling out or people getting the benifits of the fashion without earning it. i know its stupid to feel like that but o well:p

It annoys me as ive desperately trying to find a barbour jacket that i am madly in love with but its sold out everywhere!! Not due in stock until March and its meant to be my xmas present :(

On the way home on the train from london to essex last night, I couldn't stop staring at a guy (about 25-30) in BRAND SPANKING NEW FULL tweed attire consisting of overcoat, trousers (tucked in), wool jumper, flat cap and scarf.
On his feetv were brand new out of the box hunters (not the bog standard now worn for 'fashion' ones, the real chunky work wear versions, but not worn for work if you get my drift).
He was clearly trying to be more fashionistas that fashionistas.

Oh and this look was completed with Ipod banging out his funky tunes.

It was like the episode of fools and horses when del boy goes to the country!

Bless him -the try hard.

I really wanted a barbour jacket - but its the football chavs think this year so quickly went off that and seeing a minger that comes in bar wearing one - she looked like a very butch lezza in it so it put me off rather quickly!! I shudder to think we have the same taste in clothing!

It's fine by me, it means I can go to the yard in jeans and country boots, muck out, put a clean jacket on and go straight to uni without getting funny looks :p

Although I did find it quite funny that quite a few of my "townie" uni friends complimented me on my wellies, then looked less impressed once they found out they weren't Hunters. Thing is, they're Le Chameaus ... :D

It's fine with me, as I am currently wandering to work in skinny jeans, long socks and my "country" boots (yard boots ;) ) without getting a strange look, I also wear my kingsland coat to work, and get asked where it came from... I can then go and do the horse without getting changed (other than putting on "smelly horse" coat instead of "non smelly" horse coat ;) :p

I'm beginning to wish I hadn't chucked away the 20 year old Barbour waxed jacket that was festering in the back of the tack room - blardy things are £200+ now.

It makes me laugh that many of those faux riding boot things you can buy in high street stores are twice the price of an actual pair of joddy boots. That, and I will never buy another pair of Hunter wellies, unless I ever particularly desire to have cold wet feet!

The girl that used to share one of my ponies, and is now at Uni, text me the other day to say her friends were green with envy at her 'high fashion' jacket.

Tweed, from the local tack shop, £15 second hand, includes that bit of pony snot up the arm from the in hand class and half a pack of polos in the pocket!

They wanted to know where she got it....the answer......

'its vintage you know....!'
