Rider fitness query

I'm not riding very much at the moment (only hacking 2/3 times per week) and need to get my fitness back again quickly as I'm about to start training & competing again.

I've started running again and am hoping to squeeze this in 2 or 3 times per week (I run about 5.5k round the lake in front of my house).

I wondered what else I could supplement this with? Any other tips you guys have got/techniques have successfully tried in the past?
