Hi,

I wonder if anyone could recommend where I can get my hips/pelvis/back alignment checked. My instructer said it looked like I had some sort of problem that became more evident when I rode a horse with a bigger movement. I guess if I was a horse I could just be seen to by a back person but who is the equivalent for humans?

I wasn't sure if a physiotherapist, chiropracter or someone else would be appropriate. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks

My instructor said the same to me but its a problem I've had for years. My pelvis is crooked - from a bad fall a few years ago - and as such its impossible for me to sit symmetrically. She recommended a chiropractor and everything my instructor commented on was backed up by what the chiropractor discovered. My crooked pelvis was resulting in one leg being longer than the other - no wonder my stirrups always feel odd! - the ligaments had constricted to compensate for my crooked pelvis which then also affects how flexible I am in my hip etc etc...

The chiropractor crunched me back into alignment and I've been going regularly ever since. It is helping but I'm also supposed to be exercises at home (to stretch my ligaments) which I never do.

I'd been to a physio for the same problem years ago and it didn't work at all. The chiro was much more affective so I'd say give them a go... but be prepared for the sound of your bones crunching and being manhandled in rather alarming ways!

Chiropractor. They start with pelvis alignment, then work outwards. It may take time to get you right, but its worth it.

Thanks for the replies, I thought chiropractors might only do backs! I'll look into what is available locally. Any ideas how much it might cost roughly??

Thanks

I've got a chiropractor who rides! Even better! There's nothing worse than a practitioner who "tuts" when you tell them you ride! I also have a problem with a crooked pelvis and a horse who is quite wide, a visit to the chiro every 3 months does the trick!

I pay £25 per session but if you book a number of sessions together then you get money off. I thought they only did backs too but they can work on your entire skeleton. She even did some work on my wrists as I suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome! Really did the trick

I go to a cranial oestopath, who is VERY gentle. Look in the local telephone directory and there should be some places in the nearest town, an alternative health centre for instance.

I had enough of having my bones crunched by a "normal" oestopath, I was worried he was going to break my neck - scarey.

This new cranial oestopath has sorted out my daughter, who saw several different practictioners, none of which helped her to any extent. She blamed falling off her pony, I blamed the very heavy school bag she had to carry around every day.

When my husband had an accident and was knocked over onto a concrete yard I insisted that he went to visit her when he was recovered enough, as she said that the body retains every injury it receives. After going to her a few times he has had no long term effects from his accident.

When I went to see her first I thought I hadn't had any major traumas, but when I sat down and went through all the falls and bumps it added up to quite a lot.

If you have different length legs maybe you will have to have your stirrup leathers different lengths too.

Get yourself booked in...it will take time to put right but you will feel like a new person at the end of it. I have weak points that flare up from time to time, mainly that my muscles go into spasm and then pull things out of line. I go to have accupunture and remedial massage (similar concept) and it works well. They also give me exercises to do at home and it is well worth the effort doing these.
I pay £35 a session but when you are in pain it is worth every penny to come out with some relief to it.

I prefer Osteopaths for horses so would chose an osteopath for myself I guess.

Osteopaths work on the muscles as well as the skeleton so are basically a physio combined with a chiro. A two for one offer, if ever there was one!

I use an osteopath too. He does bone crunching in a rather more violent manner than the average chiro, but with a twisted pelvis, a badly healed broken hip and to places in my spine that refuse to stay where they are supposed to be, he works miracles. When two discs went out in my neck he didn't manipulate those, but was able to stretch the affected arm and surrounding muscles to relieve some pain.

I think osteopaths are underrated.

After years of very reg visits to osteos and chiro. I opted for a new thing - kinesiology and Reiki. I now have to go about once every couple of years. Saves me a lot of money and there is no cruching and cracking

I've had a similar problem recently - don't know if Dursley is too far away fom you at Swindon, but there is an excellent chiropracty (sp?) and physiotherapy clinic there - £28 per treatment. It's called the Courtyard Clinic and the phone number is 01453548119. They will assess you on your first visit and then advise if you need further treatment.

Please feel fre to PM me if you would like more info.

Good Luck
