I have just started sharing a horse and want to get some insurance.
If you have just rider insurance which company are you insured with?

bhs gold insurance is the best one

I'm with Petplan I think, cost me £80 for the year as I got the premium insurance which pays out a higher amount of money if you claim. It covers you for death, injury, 3rd party liability, if the horse you're riding dies due to something you did they will pay out, accidental damage of tack, dental treatment and emergency vets fees.

The BHS insurance only covers you for 3rd party liability and is £50/year. IMO those extras that other policies like Petplan give you are definitely worth the extra £30.

I was with E&L but after hearing several unhappy customers and them increasing what was a cheap policy over the years went from (£5 to £9/month), we cancelled and took out the Petplan policy which is much more comprehensive.

hi i agree bhs insurance which is included with your gold membership of b.h.s it gives you public liabilty insurance cover as well you can check it out on the bhs website , it cost about 50.00 a year but you have added benefits including discount in the bookshop 10% quarterly mag , discounts to diferent events etc so well worth it and you are support a good cause , and if you are planning any bhs exams in the future you will need to be a memeber anyway

There are several insurance companies in the UK offering horse insurance and some of them have a reputation of being difficult and awkward to deal with whereas others can be really helpful. I found www.horsecover.co.uk useful - its not an insurance company but does offer lots of information about choosing the best insurance online.

I have my rider only insurance with NFU.

It only costs me £56 pa and gives me public liabilty cover along with personal cover if I was to get injured and it onvolved a stay in hospital or temporay disability.

The BHS does offer personal cover but only in a worse case scenario i.e. death. So it depends, if you have a job and needed some cover for if you were to be injured than you would need to look at other cover than BHS.
