I've been wondering lately about whether or not I should have rider insurance as it's actually something I know very little about. Is it worth it when I only ride in lessons sporadically? I think when I ride in Uni RC lessons I'm covered by their insurance but obviously wouldn't be covered on non-RC occasions.

Any advice would be much appreciated

I have it - it's only £6 a month and it's just peace of mind knowing I'm covered on my own insurance. I guess if you only ride in lessons you're ocvered by the riding school's insurance so maybe it doesn't apply. It doesn't cover me when I ride my own horse.

It's useful if you occassionally have a go on friends' horses, or if you're buying a horse and riding them when you try them out. I just like to know I'm covered!

I just realised I'm not covered at the moment. When I was younger I was a member of the pony club which insured you, will be joining the riding club when I have some money. You could always join the BHS as that includes insurance

I think BHS is only third party cover? which although very valuable (essential really) in itself doesn't offer you any accident cover if you were to injure yourself. I may be wrong though...
