I've owned my own horse for many years now, but sadly had to sell my boy for financial reasons :( I was really missing my riding, so I've recently advertised and have had lots of people offering me free riding, which is fantastic! I am going to try my first possible horses on Monday.

I was wondering about 'rider only' insurance and whether to bother with it? I get free healthcare through work, so I'm not bothered about that aspect, it was more about 3rd party liability - I'm not sure whether the horse's own insurance would cover that if I was riding? Petplan want £75 a year for a rider only policy which I think is very costly :O

BHS gold membership includes personal insurance, and then you're helping a charity too :)

It's all I ever had for my two at home. I always said the day my 35y/o needed an operation would be the day I said goodbye, and it was. Since my dad is a vet and is friends with the knackerman to take the body away, there was no point insuring for anything else. I also carried it on whilst I had a loan pony, and have it now still. Barry has his own insurance and I have my BHS membership still.

I think WHW also do a membership option with insurance.
