Am looking to start riding someone's horse at the weekends just hacking/schooling and owner wants me to get rider insurance. Has anyone got any recommendations for best company? And how much is it normally? Any help appreciated :)

Become a Gold member of British Horse Society and you'll get public liability and I think legal cover - costs about £50-ish a year. If you need any other cover not sure tbh, but others may have info. I guess what you need to find out is what owners current insurance covers you for - eg if the horse has an accident whilst in your care/riding, is that covered? I know when I was with NFU anyone who I said could rider effectively had third party cover in so much as damaged caused was covered, but if the rider was injured they weren't.

the bhs informed though if a transaction of money has happened there gold membership does not cover you. for example if you are paying to share a horse. Dont ask, Ive had a battle trying to find decent ride only insurance. try NFU.

I had a battle with the NFU. As I ride the same horse much of the time they wanted me to insure the horse at 30 something a month.
I finally got it sorted with petplan for 10-15 quid more than BHS gold. The benefit being that I get limited vet cover and a bit for personal accident as well as all of the BHS benefits.....just no magazine.
